Has there been an uptick of male posters on MN?

Just something I’ve noticed recently. I know MN is not just for women (the About Us states it’s for parents, but I haven’t watched the video as it’s pretty long so maybe more is said there).

I was wondering how other women feel about this? And as for men, are you here to gain a perspective from a female-dominated space? Is there even an equivalent space for men?

OP, your English is excellent.

It's a decent reminder that this place is very public. There are men who post on threads, there are a lot more who just read.

Ever since the sex board was put up front and we saw what was going on in there. I'd definitely think twice about posting something sexual under a usual username. I also think opening up the sex board summoned some of them out onto the main boards.

SouthLondonMum22 · 28/08/2024 20:58

I have no issues with men posting here.

The only thing that irritates me is if I have a disagreement with someone and they automatically say something like “you must be a man” simply because we have different opinions.

Fuck sake I can't even quote correctly today, me and my simple little female brain Wink

Chap here ...
The message boards here are a fantastic resource I guess principally for women and as my name suggests I mainly read them to get a better insight into what makes relationships work. Perhaps more importantly it shows me how many women suffer at the hands of abusive men and them being helped by other women.

Keep up the great work helping each other

Patronising as fuck.

Thanks for illustrating so nicely the reasons why women would prefer this to remain a female dominated site though, really, well done.

Keep up the good work!

(I'd really like to write "now seriously, fuck off" here but it would get deleted Grin)

Prefer no men or at least for them it to be known.

I do sometimes think, "oh yes, XXXXX is a bloke, I forgot". There's only two of them though. The Wall of Text Men are everywhere and very obvious.

There's a few who I might forget are blokes except they've got usernames which signal they are.

@ErrolTheDragon

but so do many women & there as do many non sex/gender names too - mine included. (I'm female)

I don't know how (normal) men can 'win'
on here. If they announce they're men or the post is from a male pov they're wrong, if they don't they're in the wrong.

i like 'our' friends, the regular male posters but the MRA & mansplaining or creepy twats can get in the bin.

Some of the "man here" posting is just about honesty because it's embarrassing when you are exchanging posts with someone who assumes you are female. It isn't meant to convey that a man's opinion is worth more. As to why I'm a "man here", shouldn't more men be listening to female voices and considering female perspectives about parenting, relationships, etc? I've been on for about a year after first reading about it in the press. I have three kids, one with additional needs, and there aren't really any other spaces with men that don't degenerate into "bro" chat. For me, I like to join in the threads, but it's more about listening than telling.

Mate, have you heard about advanced search on here? Your name chucks up all your posts about vaginas, sex kinks, pubic grooming and all sorts of other stuff. You’re the exact kind of disingenuous fucker that makes us roll our eyes in horror.

I’d bloody love it if there was some way of making this site women only.

Oh behave. Why the fuck does a man have any reason or place to have an opinion enough to post about vaginas? Just let women have their space for goodness sake.

It appears Dr Fahbeep's specialty is burning hair off your perineum and anus.

Now you’re just being silly. As if a woman would go onto a mainly male forum and contribute to a conversation about testicles.

Not going to respond to you again. Don’t play with silly little boys.

rightly or wrongly mums net Hq have said the site is for all people, and again it is a democracy and a public forum i can respect your points i guess then its upto mumsnet to make a separate board for certain groups only etc

I don't mind a few decent blokes. I really mind the MRA fuckers who come to tell us off. They are massively too common.

Same here. I've been getting a tad exasperated lately by a big increase in posts purporting to be by women, who all write in the same faux-authoritative style familiar to me from male posters on Reddit and coding forums.

They all manage, subtly or blatantly, to put down women sharing their feelings about something. Women's Feelings Are Wrong, automatically. You just know that, were you unfortunate enough to be in a pub with them, they'd be droning on, in a flat, almost expressionless but overbearing tone, about how and why somebody else was wrong.
