Is Vinted safe to sell on?

I have 6 pairs of BNIB doc martens to sell.

I don't want to but need to and I really can't afford to lose money on them from scammers.

Is vinted safe to sell them on?

I think eBay offers a verification service possibly - I don't know if that would apply for something like doc martens but may be worth looking at?

I haven’t sold a lot on there, about 30/40 items but never had a problem.

I've sold quite a bit on there recently and had no issues. Some expensive trainers as well as other things.

You mean verification that the items are genuine?

I have sold a few things in Vinted recently. Someone did try a scam but it was very obvious and when reported they were removed. I'm not sure how you could be scammed as the buyer pays when they agree the sale and then the money is transferred to you when they pick it up and don't report an issue/report all is ok. I guess they could say they aren't any good, but I imagine they'd have to prove it.

Thankyou.

I'll give it a go.

I probably wouldn’t sell anything valuable.

I’ve had a situation where the buyer reported the packaging as damaged and a full refund was issued, so I’ve lost the item and the money (according to Vinted the buyer doesn’t have to post anything back to get a refund!). Luckily it was a cheap item but there was no option of a resolution or countering the buyer’s claim (I had evidence of the parcel being very securely wrapped but wasn’t given the option to submit it). As the buyer did not provide any evidence of the damage to me, I couldn’t take it up with the shipping company either.

I've usually only sell low value items. I have sold one pair of Docs for £50 and it all went fine.

I was quite nervous though!

I have a carrier I wanted to sell but it's worth about £100 so I'm really nervous about selling it on there and have ended up holding on to it

MonsteraMama · 28/08/2024 12:54

Vinted is good for getting rid of basic stuff for a few quid and clearing out your wardrobe a bit, but I wouldn't bother selling anything of actual value on there because people go there wanting a bargain and are cheeky fuckers about it. I had a pair of limited edition DMs worth about £200, listed them on Vinted and just got a load of absolutely ludicrous lowball offers (like, I'll give you £20 for them).

Put them on eBay and sold for £250 with no hassle.

I’ve lost the item and the money (according to Vinted the buyer doesn’t have to post anything back to get a refund!)

This is the opposite to my very recent experience.

I bought a football shirt for dc1. Paid £20, as new condition bla bla. Seller sent the wrong item, a filthy, stained, damaged old Adidas tshirt.

He was very apologetic but I'm pretty sure it was an attempted scam (I assume he was hoping that the dispute window would expire before the package was opened) because I can't see how anyone would have even paid a quid for what I received...literally unsellable.

Anyway, I raised a case and was told I'd need to return the item to the seller for a refund at my expense. Had to pay £2.90 for return postage before I got my original payment back, just money down the drain. Infuriating.

DrJackShepard · 28/08/2024 13:08

Hmm. Might just stick with Ebay

I find it fine but people really want bargains so be prepared to ignore or decline a lot of offers.

Can you get paid by PayPal on Vinted?
