I'm intrigued by the references to the Savenake Forest ghostly going ons in memorable threads.
I know the place well and all the related sightings.
I bought a large house close by and I can honestly say I wouldn't have it back in my possession for free. Anyone else that terrified of a place?

The back of my old house, upstairs. I was cleaning one day, and it looked so good I decided to take some photos. There appeared to be something on the screen, so I checked in that direction. There was nothing there and I carried on taking pictures but it honestly felt as though there was something there that saw me, and it was furious that it had been seen. Entirely subjective, but I was really frightened by it's sense of rage towards me, as though I wasn't worthy of seeing it.

No17CherryTreeLane · 28/08/2024 11:21

I love reading stuff like this!

Does anyone remember an episode of 'Escape to the Country' (I think) where the male potential buyer got freaked out in one of the small upstairs rooms, think might have been Kent or Sussex.
Have never been able to find that episode 😕

BuntyFayreweather · 28/08/2024 11:25

Ooh. I love escape @No17CherryTreeLane . I didn't see that episode but I remember the two lads who refused to go into church conversion.
I wouldn't buy one either! Deaders in the cellar.

My grandparents lived in an old house when they first got married, my gran always said there was one room downstairs she hated going in to and when she went in to clean there was a corner she never went into because it felt cold and made her feel horrible.
Anyway they moved and years later they met the current owners who asked if they had ever seen anything strange there... my gran said no but told them about the creepy room. They said the husband had seen the ghost of a man there a couple of times- in the same corner of the room my gran hated going in to!

Also a friend lived in a "haunted house" for a bit as a student, they all felt creeped out in the hallway and my friend felt someone right behind her when walking downstairs a few times but nobody was there. One time one of the housemates ran downstairs crying because she'd felt something push her on the stairs and my friend shouted out "you're scaring us stop it" and they never felt anything again after that!

BuntyFayreweather · 28/08/2024 11:43

My old house is infamous for its ghost. I didn't know because I was so scared of ghosts I never read any local books. My grandfather owned the Yorkshire house with the headless horseman. My gran was the second wife who refused to live there.
I now going into houses and if I feel anything I am out of there.

Often when I go into hotels or buildings I have always had this good or bad energy feeling. I hate it tbh as if I get a bad energy then I can't sleep at all. I had it at one house we did an Air BnB abroad. As soon as I walked in everything was creepy to me and I had to sleep with the lights on. It was right next to an old railroad which hadn't been used in decades. Anyway, during the night I woke up to hear the rush of a fast train ringing through my ears and a loud gruff voice in my ear and it was as if I could feel the wind blowing because of the train. I like to think that this is my head playing games with me or that because I am already fearful, it's in my head or it's some kind of dream state. I did however feel awake and everything was normal in the room - not like dreams where things change it appear different. . But I guess I'll never know!

An air b and b in north wales a few years ago

It was a lovely little cottage but there was weird vibes just in the hallway, no where else in the house . The loo and bathroom was downstairs and the bedrooms were upstairs

If I needed the loo late at night I dreaded coming down to use it as I honestly felt such an off presence. I would feel like I wanted to run away

I never said anything to anyone but quite recently we were talking about that holiday and one of the DC said , I loved that holiday house but the hallway was really creepy (😱)

BuntyFayreweather · 28/08/2024 17:13

I woke up every night at the same time for twenty years until I moved away from the area my creepy house was situated in. It was like I was followed.

My dad's old house was haunted. I saw a figure running through the kitchen and also on the upstairs landing multiple times. Turns out we all did!

My dad was convinced we were all playing a prank/ being absurd and refused to believe us. Until he saw it too when he was home alone one day, he went straight out and to the church to get someone in to cleanse the house.

The upstairs guest bedroom of my Grandma's house. Was a new council build from the 50s and they were the first owners as a family. I swear the land it was built on was full of spooky history as I could not ever sleep in that room without hiding under the duvet- as an adult too, I might add. Cold, movement on the carpet, the end of the bed depressing slightly as if someone was sitting there 😨

OldTinHat · 31/08/2024 20:30

I've 100s of accounts and have mentioned some of them on here before. But, here's one from today...back story first.

My builder did some work in an old cottage a few weeks ago. The owner said she'd bought a new tool, he (jokingly) said that wasn't a tool, but 'this' was a tool and got a professional trade version out of his kit and waved it around. Basically, messing about. Anyway, everything on a nearby shelf suddenly fell and smashed. Not a falling on the floor type thing, but was swept off and flew across the room. The way he described what he did, imo, sounded threatening. But he was trying to be clever a total dick

He said he did some work elsewhere last week and got a phone call asking if he'd 'left something behind' because stuff has been moving and disappearing.

I've known this guy for years but for the past 12 months, he's been very flakey. Anyway, he was here today and asked to borrow a torch. When he finished with it, he put it back. I saw him put it back in the bowl with a million other bits of crap where it lives. He turned his back, the torch flew out of the bowl and crashed on the floor some good distance away. It didn't fall. It was like it was thrown.

Anyway, he shot off not long after, absolutely shaking. He's due back next week. I think he may have pissed off something...

Years ago,I had a friend (who turned out to be a nasty bitch, who turned on me and made my life so hellish,I moved away-but that's another thread)

Anyway,we where at her house one day,(my children where upstairs playing with her ds) when I saw a little boy of about 4/5 years old run across the hall and I could see him hiding behind the door-clear as day

I just knew his name was 'sam'

I didn't say anything in the moment as she was in the kitchen making drinks for us

Just as she came back in,my youngest dd came wandering in and told me 'Sam wants a drink too, please mummy'

My friend was almost in tears-shed had 5 children over two marriages (3 where almost adults at this point and 2 where tweens)

She'd left her first husband, divorced him,got married to the second and left second hubby for her now partner-leaving her children with their father

She'd fallen pregnant with no6-my dds friend (at the time, they where about 6 years old) and had lost a baby boy to stillbirth about 4 years earlier-she really felt it was her punishment for leaving her other children with their fathers

She often saw the child she had lost,we where not the first to have seen him and her youngest often spoke about him-Sam was the name they'd chosen for him

If it had just been me,I would have put it down to a trick of the light but dd coming in and saying 'sam' needed a drink too confirmed I hadn't been imaging it

She's now an adult and I asked her about it a few weeks ago,she said she'd seen him and he'd whispered about the drink-so she asked me and when she turned round,he'd gone

I have posted on here before of three experiences, under different usernames over 15 years. Without going into detail, because I would have to change my current username, let me give you some info:

Beautiful midsummer day 50 years ago, early to bed. At sunset, a beast confrontation. It lasted 5 hours. But I won the night. 1983.

The staircase in the light and airy hotel that we were told we 'should not go towards'. When I did, I saw the deceased's woman's body, hovering at an angle. Her feet were horrific. 1985.

The cloven-foot beast that ran before us. Then disappeared into the folds of woodland below. 2002.

Pedallleur · 31/08/2024 21:51

Friend of mine has a house. Large detached and prob 100 yrs old. He was having work done on it and a tradesman left because he was 'pushed' by no one he saw. Literally packed his stuff and refused to work there. Mr friend tells me there are odd spaces in the house and he can be sat in a room and hear footsteps on the stairs and children upstairs. He has no children!!! Tells me he and his wife are used to it now.

PureBoggin · 01/09/2024 09:57

I don't !

I don't think I'd sleep for a week 😝

BuntyFayreweather · 01/09/2024 18:36

@WeGoChai I can't do a link on the story. It's on threads you never forget.
If you do an advanced search it will pop up.
I wanted to find out if it was the incident I had been told about as I lived locally at one point.

My Bil and his wife renovated the old stables belonging to the village 'big' house dating from the Georgian period.
Bil had 3 Alsatians that were devoted to him and would follow him everywhere bar the main bedroom. They would literally step right up to the threshold so they could see Bil but would not cross into the room.
.
That room was always freezing, and they had a brass bed with huge screw in finials and time after time they would walk into the room, and all four finials would be on the bed. Bil and his wife were the only people who lived in the house.
My son and his girlfriend were house sitting for them one time, now my son is not the slightest 'woo' and hes built like a brick outhouse but he rang me in the early hours to say they were both coming home, 'There was something not right here' and refused to stay.

Bil had a medium or someone to bless the house, and he said the activity was centred in the main bedroom. A crucifix was tied to the bedstead, and it was not to be removed under any circumstances.

They would go into the room to find the crucifix flipped over..........
The eventually sold it, but that wasn't without problems letters going missing and one prospective buyer was involved in a minor rta on his way for a second viewing of the house.

BuntyFayreweather · 02/09/2024 07:06

I've owned a lot of houses in my time, many with dark corners. I now wouldn't buy if there was anything off. It's just a feeling but I think it's nature's way of warning us. I did actually take my dog to a few viewings after the country house horror.A fortune teller once told me I was a very powerful medium and pyscic. Stuff that, too scary.

I briefly dated the manager on the oldest pub in my town (1700s). He lived in the flat upstairs and claimed he heard footsteps a few times. Once he popped to the shop and I stayed in the flat and there was a knock at the door. Three short sharp raps. I opened it straight away and there was no one there, and the flat door was set right in the middle of a very long corridor that ran the length of the building. There's no way anyone could disappear in the few seconds it took to get to the door - I was literally sat on the sofa 2 foot away.

BuntyFayreweather · 02/09/2024 08:48

@Sparklfairy ooh I don't like three raps.
I believe black arts. Or the rozzers!
My best friend does it sometimes (I have a bell ffs).
