I'm really cross with myself, I made a mistake

I've been driving for over 20 years. At the weekend I was in a busy tight carpark and I hit a parked car as I was trying to park. Completely my fault and I left a note, small dent on their car, no damage to mine.
I caught the owners, all sorted and insurance company sorting it out as my fault.
Now I'm anxious about it, I'm parking miles away from everyone and know i won't park in a busy car park again. I've got a steep excess and will lose some of my protected no claims bonus and I just feel so stupid. A second mis judgement will cause so much hassle.
I'm just grateful the persons car I hit was reasonable and didn't shout at me for being so stupid.

You are human. And humans make mistakes. No one was hurt.

Crucially, the bit you didn't make a mistake in was how you acted afterwards. You were reasonable, honest and practical.

Try gently to build your confidence in parking near others again, in low pressure environments where possible.

Mistakes are just that, unintended events that we'd rather we hadn't done. You're human, we do this from time to time. It's ok, and it's been taken well by the owners of the other car.

You shouldn't have to pay any excess if you're not claiming for damage to you car, and the protection on your no claims bonus is for exactly this type of situation.

I know it makes you nervous but practise until you get your confidence back, even if it means going places at quieter times.

In the grand scheme of things there is a lot for you to be thankful for. One machine hit another, both did their jobs and no one got hurt. Insurance is sorting out the boring logistical stuff.

It sucks but you'll be fine OP Flowers
