Learning to drive at 50

So ladies have decided to bite the bullet and learn to drive at the ripe old age of 50. Going to go for automatic as it is likely any car we would get would a hybrid, so automatic. I am expecting insurance to be insane, do any of you know how I could get sound estimate of how much it is likely to cost. Also any hints and tips from geriatric learners would be appreciated.

Go for it dont matter how old you are.

YAY! Good luck! 😄 The world is your oyster when you can drive. It opens up so many new opportunities and a new level of independence, and can be crucial in some cases.

What made you want to learn now?

Just to say my mother in law learned when she was 58 and passed first time - which is more than I managed! Good luck.

I learned (automatic) at 50 and my insurance was only about 300 for the year. It’s gone up since (3 years ago) because of cost of living etc, but it’s still reasonable so don’t worry!

My grandmother learnt to drive at 65! She passed first time.

My husband passed first time at 49. Go for it!

Go on to compare the market or similar to check insurance costs

I have tried that but it asks loads of questions like I have to have a specific car in mind. I would love to know what the cheapest car to insure would be

I learned in an automatic. It was so much easier as I could concentrate on the road and nothing else . My co ordination is not great anyway .
