I just stood on a dead mouse with my bare foot.

I was walking downstairs half asleep. Cat had clearly brought in a present during the night. Mouse now resembles pancake and all my neighbours are probably awake due to the decibels of my scream. Have scrubbed foot until raw!

Poor mouse. Poor me. Bloody cat! It felt good to get this out Smile

Eek poor you 😬

the other week, I went to slip a clog on at the back door to take the dog out and squished my bare toes into a very large slug hiding in the end 👀 will never forget that cold, slimy feeling

Forwardthinkingturtle · 27/08/2024 07:05

Just to emphasise that I didn’t lightly tickle it - it was a full on stomp - sole to the ground. Now to inspect my newly installed stair runner…

🤢 oh dear. Cats!!!

Chemenger · 27/08/2024 07:08

Been there, you have my deepest sympathy. A bit like treading on sicked up cat food, but worse. DH once sat on a dead mouse while wearing light coloured chinos, spectacular multicoloured stains. I don’t know why we keep cats.

Forwardthinkingturtle · 27/08/2024 07:09

@Insidenumber09 Noo, quel horreur!

That reminds me that the other day I went to put my foot into my trainer and there was a little mouse (alive) hiding in there, but luckily its head was poking out! That one was more lucky.

Time for a 2nd bell on the cat collar….

You have new carpet? Asking for trouble there.

EliflurtleAndTheInfiniteMadness · 27/08/2024 07:11

I did the same many years ago bit with a live mouse and killed it, still feel sick thinking about it 🤢.

Oh how sweet bless it 🥰

@Chemenger it’s sisal, deliberately chosen after tons of research for being very scratch proof! However, I didn’t think to “dead mouse guts proof” it 😂Apparently though, dead mice are surprisingly compact when they’ve been dead a while and on DH’s inspection the whole thing appeared to have stayed intact even after an impact of multiple kilos of force.

The plot thickens - just came downstairs again and lightly kicked a mouse that was very much alive. Have rescued. Hopefully some peace now for the rest of the day?!

And of course your DCat is now pissed off at your lack of appreciation for the Best Present Ever.

maslinpan · 27/08/2024 08:20

Nothing to do with cats, but I stood on a live bat once, barefoot.

CrunchyCarrot · 27/08/2024 08:24

Your cat is thinking, 'One day this slave might appreciate gifts and actually know what to do with them. I will keep perservering in the hope they will learn. Sigh.'

You'll be fine :-). I have twice been bitten by a mouse, once at work and once at home, when I was trying to rescue the mouse and put it outside. On both occasions the mouse was ungrateful.

I have also euthanased a poor mouse who had been badly bitten.

Cats will bring in mice to give to you and if the mouse manages to free itself, it will run and hide and the cat will search and search.

Chemenger · 27/08/2024 11:27

We’re in the market for a stair runner that is cat resistant @Forwardthinkingturtle , is your beautiful new sisal one non-slip? Our stairs are quite precipitous so the carpet needs to not be slippery.

LadySlipper · 27/08/2024 11:31

My son once did an entire driving lesson with a dead mouse in the toe of his trainer. He thought the tail felt like a shoe lace so he ignored it!

CoffeandTiaMaria · 27/08/2024 11:34

Marginally worse is a decomposed dead mouse in your welly boot and bare feet 🤢🤮

caramac04 · 27/08/2024 11:37

My dog peed on my ankle and shoe yesterday. Never done anything like it before. I was fussing another dog and I think he was just claiming me before the other dog got any ideas about my affection.

SafeMouse · 27/08/2024 11:38

I once went to put rubbish out in communal bins with nothing but circa 2010 lacy ballet flats on. Stood on a decomposing rat. It actually went pop as it exploded over my shoe.
There was broken glass on the floor so had to hop off back to my flat trailing maggoty rat guts through the staircase.

Ohh yuk you standing on it. The above reminds me I put my foot in an ugg type boot in the hall and a live mouse was in there. Old cat brought lots of things in. Uhh still feel funny now.

VimesandhisCardboardBoots · 27/08/2024 12:00

I ended up with a shrew in my shoe because of the bloody cat a few weeks ago. While I appreciated the alliteration, I did not enjoy trying to catch the flipping thing after it scampered out.

Nothing however beats what I stepped in a few years ago though. We'd been away for a fortnight over Christmas, come home to grim weather so no-one had gone out the back.

A few nights later DP is in the bath. I need the loo so decide to pop out the back to a bush (Yay, male privilege!). Barefooted, I step out onto the decking in the dark. A few more steps and "Squidge" I yell, do a gross hoppy dance and get my phone torch on, to find a cat in a state of decomposition in front of me. DP was most unhappy as I hopped into the bathroom, turfed her out of the bath and shoved my foot in there.

CurlewKate · 27/08/2024 12:21

I once put my bare foot actually inside a half eaten rabbit like some nightmarish slipper. In the dark. Think yourself lucky!🤣

worryworrysuperscurry · 27/08/2024 12:49

Poor you! The same thing happened to DD when she was about 7. The mouse had been left at the foot of the stairs by one of the cats, and was not quite dead when DD came down. I can still remember that scream, and her hysterics as she described the noise it made!

worryworrysuperscurry · 27/08/2024 12:51

@LadySlipper Not quite as bad as that, but one of our cats once deposited a dead mouse in my handbag. Thankfully I discovered it fairly quickly and it didn't get buried in the depths of my bag!

Danceswithweasels · 27/08/2024 12:59

I once slid my hand under my pillow to flip it over onto the cool side only to find a live mouse sheltering from the cat. She was of the opinion that I was a lazy Hooman and the only way I would learn to catch my own mice was for her to bring them to me in bed 😐 she had to be PTS last week and I would even put up with bed mice to have her back.

themonkeysnuts · 27/08/2024 13:19

i once went barefoot in the kitchen in the dark and trod in cold cat sick 😣
