Can anyone remember the name of this book?

Loved that book.

There's a US TV series based on the book but with a female lead ( played by Zoe Kravitz ) I really enjoyed it. It was far far cooler and edgier than the film version.

there was a film version (John Cusack) also had Jack Black I think

The film was ridiculous. It was supposed to be a small dingy record shop. The film made it massive, like an HMV or something.

There was nothing about the film that resembled the book in any way. It had so much potential too. 🫤

@SunshineonLeaves subplot is a bit of an overstatement but Rob refuses to sleep with Laura after her Dad's funeral because she's not used condoms with Ray and they talk about if she could kill him if they had sex then Rob wonders about Ray being bisexual. It's very of its time (published in 1995).

That would have been such a good film if they'd kept it closer to the original book. (My usual lament)

@JaninaDuszejko oh yes I remember now, they find it really sad that they have to consider that. Thanks!

I actually love the film but the book is better. I do think Barry and Dick are spot on but Catherine Zeta Jones is awful!

Yep.

I was outraged when I saw the movie.

Won't all the music / football reference be really dated now - especially for a 15 yo?

My kids listen to Nirvana, wear 90s football shirts and one has a walkman with tapes so I don't think this is an issue.
