What has happened to my frying pan?! Baffled

It’s been totally fine and has looked like a normal pan until… now. It’s come out the dishwasher tonight looking like this. It’s been through the dishwasher before, and it wasn’t like this when I began cooking today. Any ideas? Didn’t make anything I wouldn’t usually cook, and there was plenty of oil.

Has something rubbed against in the dishwasher?

Nope, it was on its own on the bottom!

Is that a scoville never stick pan? I don't know what's caused it, just fearing for my own pans as it looks very similar !

It is exactly that pan! It’s been great for 3 years, no idea what’s gone wrong with it tonight. Might have to write to Scoville

I had Scoville pans and the same happened to several of mine. I wrote to them and they fobbed me off. I binned them all and bought a different brand.

Although they say these pans are dishwasher safe I never put them in the dishwasher. I don't think non stick pans last as long when they are put through the dishwasher.

GildedRage · 26/08/2024 23:05

It’s the dish soap, corroded the surface. Possibly due to the placement in the dishwasher. I believe items in the upper rack get less direct contact with the detergents?

Bluemincat · 26/08/2024 23:07

Did you put it under cold water when it was hot? I've done that before and it ruins pans. You're meant to let them cool down completely before washing. I also always wash pans by hand.

BiscuityBoyle · 26/08/2024 23:09

I had similar. I complained to the company, I don’t remember who. They asked if I’d put it in the dishwasher. I said that I had and in fact had chosen that pan as it said dishwasher safe. They told me that dishwasher safe doesn’t mean that you can wash it in the dishwasher. I don’t know what it means if not that you can put it in the dishwasher.

That’s just bollocks! Honestly some companies will swear black is white to avoid any responsibility to their customers.

Yes, I only buy stainless steel after reading that as soon as a non-stick pan develops any scratches or patches where the coating’s wearing off, it’s basically poisoning you.

I know! I asked what does it mean then and was told it was only dishwasher safe with certain tablets. So I asked what tablets and they said they couldn’t tell me.
