I'd probably hand it into a police station as air pods can be tracked on "find my" on an iPhone and I wouldn't want a stranger turning up at my house asking where they were.

If you have an iPhone, you can open a case to locate the owners if they have activated lost mode. This is possible because AirPods are always paired with an iPhone.
