Have they gone from his phone?

Doggymummar · 26/08/2024 16:43

Apple store is probably your best bet, it might be reversible

Are they not backed up to iCloud?

PuppyMonkey · 26/08/2024 16:51

Can he not log back into his Apple ID?

PuppyMonkey · 26/08/2024 16:55

This is from Apple -

Restore your contacts from an earlier version
When you restore your contacts from an earlier version, the version that you select replaces the existing contacts on all your devices. Before you restore, iCloud saves your current contacts so that if you want to undo the restore, you can.

  1. Sign in to iCloud.com.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom of the window, then select Data Recovery.
  3. Select Restore Contacts.
  4. Select Restore next to the date before you deleted the content.
  5. Select Restore again to confirm. After the restore completes, you get a notification on iCloud.com and an email at the address on file with your Apple ID.

iCloud

Log in to iCloud to access your photos, mail, notes, documents and more. Sign in with your Apple ID or create a new account to start using Apple services.

There are many legitimate reasons for wanting to avoid Apple products but "complicated" isn't one of them! They're very user-friendly, the sync function is really convenient, and I've never heard of a reset wiping a second synced device before now.

All of the data is (or should be!) automatically backed up to iCloud so when I get a new phone, I reset the old one but my iCloud account is still signed in on my other Apple devices. One shouldn't affect the other.
