Someone ill two weeks ago stomach pain, then blood /urine seem to be cleared up with antibiotics and then pain again.
Hospital with bloods etc appendix ruled out but now vomiting.
How do they check for appendix. What else can it be

When I suspected appendicitis doc asked me to stand on toes then suddenly thump down onto the heels, letting the body just go with the gravity. Pain= suspected appendicitis.

Call 101?

Bluemincat · 25/08/2024 23:30

101 is the police. I think you meant 111.

Whatisthis12 · 25/08/2024 23:30

Yes going to hospital but been in all day with bloods and checks and told definitely not appendix?

Or even 111…

SummerSplashing · 25/08/2024 23:30

I don't know? Mine started causing me pain one night, a lot of pain but got through the night, a lot of pain next morning. Couldn't get to GP. GP don't do home visits. Got to about 3,griend picked up her kids from school, took me to GP, who sent me to A&E, friend dropped me to A&E, appendix out by midnight. Apparently just caught in time before it burst.

Whatisthis12 · 25/08/2024 23:31

What is the check for appendix? Can bloods check it?

A blood test isn't diagnostic for appendicitis. They should do a physical exam and at least an ultrasound. My DS had appendicitis even with normal bloods and they couldn't find his appendix on the scan so said it must be OK - totally wrong! His nearly burst because they kept fobbing us off with this.

I would try to get an out of hours appt with a GP. They will probably also repeat urine test as it could be that there was a UTI that hasn't fully resolved.

Could also be something like a kidney stone.

Owl55 · 25/08/2024 23:33

Ovarian cyst possibly?

Bluemincat · 25/08/2024 23:33

Read the NICE guidelines for appendicitis.

Whatisthis12 · 25/08/2024 23:34

Yes they were thinking kidney stones earlier and all aas OK and pain settled with meds but now vomiting. They didn't scan earlier did urine and bloods.

NavyPanda · 25/08/2024 23:36

Sorry to hear this, could it be kidney stones? Sounds similar, I've had them.

Emeralpies · 25/08/2024 23:36

The first time DS had appendicitis they diagnosed by feeling his stomach and blood test. The second time he had it they examined him and diagnosed by ultrasound.

TwigTheWonderKid · 25/08/2024 23:38

You need an ultrasound.

Whatisthis12 · 25/08/2024 23:39

Would kidney stones get worse and cause vomiting like this?. It's just he's been seen by a few docs today and given meds but is getting worse

OP posts:
Bluemincat · 25/08/2024 23:40

If he's getting worse then go back to the hospital. Clear bloods do not exclude appendicitis. They at least need to do a scan.

Whatisthis12 · 25/08/2024 23:42

Yes on way to it but apparently people who can scan don't work nights or weekends? Maybe in a and e?

Whatisthis12 · 25/08/2024 23:45

Thanks blue, no fever

When I had appendicitis, it came on suddenly and painkillers did nothing. Went to a and e and the triage nurse did not even suspect or mention appendicitis. I was waiting nearly 6 hrs before I passed out in pain and got rushed into surgery. Dr said he was going to pit a complaint in because they should have suspected appendicitis. He said that I could have died. Pls pls go to a and e and do not get fobbed off.

Bluemincat · 26/08/2024 05:19

How is he doing?

Whatisthis12 · 26/08/2024 07:59

In hospital, drip for pain lots of doc have ruled out appendix and think it's kidney stone
