Have you ever gone 'viral' on social media?

And if so what did you do?

I am basically a nobody, but created a video for Instagram 3 days ago which has had just over 200,000 views. Currently increasing by 1000 approx every 15 mins, so it's gathering pace!

I guess for celebrity/influencer people, this is small fry. But I usually only get a couple of likes on a post if I'm lucky, so this is exciting and amusing!

I'd love to know if any previously 'unknowns', have experienced similar?

Yes but in business capacity.

Is it a video or a reel?
Is it a personal one?

Instagram is pushing reels at the moment.

A reel for a hobby. A bit of a blooper reel which I suppose appeals.

People are weird.

Yes, twice. Both accidentaly. Both completely separately.

Its exciting and weird isn’t it?

Are you going to share the link?

Not particularly me, my Tv show edits have… a few and one on you tube has 200k views

HelloVeritas · 25/08/2024 22:31

Won't share link as too identifying and deadly dull

What's odd is that's gained me only about 40 new followers- hardly groundbreaking stuff!

Share the link! I'm so intrigued.

Not quite viral but despite only having 700 Twitter followers I recently had a tweet do 82,000 views over a couple of days.

It was while Taylor Swift was doing her London gigs in June (although the content was completely unrelated to her!) and I was amused that more people had seen my little tweet than had seen her each night.

A friend of mine has over 100k followers on Instagram and everytime I comment on a post of hers I get a massive wave of follow requests. Confuses me until I remember why Grin

I've had quite a few on my business page that have done up to 500,000 views, my eldest DS has one on his hobby page that is at 3 million views now.

Sort of. I did a daft snowboarding thing in this country when it had snowed hard and the video was on the local news and the daily mail wrote an article and had the video on their website (they never asked me)!

This is quite typical really - views vs followers - they really don't often correlate for one off 'viral' entertainment style posts.

This is true.

My work reels get a lot of views/comments from people who like ASMR type stuff, I get loads of comments along the lines of "watching this really satisfies my OCD".

They don't tend to follow me though which kind of suits me as I'm a service based business and only really want followers that are potential clients.

Yes. My mom best friend is celine dion. So our photos get captured a lot back in the 90’s and early 00’s. No social media back then.

i used to date a famous singer 10 years ago and paparazi took our photos and my life become a hell. Never got so many haters in my life. I have to closed all my social media account. I cant stand the comment, jealousy and the hatred. I’m very private and introvert. Having that kind of attention really makes me uncomfortable.

I did once, when I filmed cars stuck on the motorway on a famous stretch of the road, due to snow.

BBC radio contacted me, as did the Daily Mail (told them to piss off, and no, they can’t use my footage)

I was also on the local news. I was recruited by a local news agency and I was often contacted to ask if I would nip out and report on the traffic.
