Volvo XC40

Hi all,

We currently have an Audi A4 estate but it's getting a bit old now and looking for a new car. We've viewed and test drove a Volvo XC40 but would love to know if anyone has any experiences, good or bad with these? Ideally would love the XC90 but a little out of our current price range!

Any opinions greatly appreciated Smile

We had the plug-in hybrid and it was fantastic. I haven’t a bad word to say about it.

@LightDrizzle Thank you!Smile

Probably should've said in original post but we'd be looking at a diesel.

I've just spent a week driving a XC40 as a hire car and loved it. Really easy to drive, a tonne of useful feature, am thinking of getting when when we change our car in a few months

Loved my XC90, really nothing else even comes close. Might the XC40 be a bit on the small side compared to an estate though? My parents have one and it’s more or less a hatchback. Have you looked at the XC60?

Following with interest, as I’m considering one myself. Currently have a Qashqai and really fancy a Volvo, but xc90 is also beyond budget, xc60 not a lot less really.

Thanks all - really helpful.

@ItsVeryHyacinthBucket When we drove it, it seemed adequate space wise but yes - the boot was smaller than our estate. The kids are a little older now so no need for a pram and our dog is small/medium so I don't think we'll miss the space too much. For short breaks we'd probably buy a roof box for the extra space.

We did look at an XC60 but the inside seemed quite dated compared to the XC40!

Step-MIL has an XC40 and it’s lovely but seems very compact. We were looking to upgrade from our (awful) qashqai to an XC60 but I think even that is too small for our family of 4.

What did you go for in the end?

katem98 · 23/06/2025 23:47

@SwissLancashire Just saw your question! We went for the Audi Q3 in the end. Have had it for around 6 months. Clunky gears but a lovely drive otherwise so far!

Husband and I share a car. We bought our Volvo XC40 in February last year. We both absolutely love it. It’s so smooth and quiet to drive.
