Does this look like bed bug bites to you?

I woke up yesterday to a spot/bite on my chest, one on my wrist and one on my hand. Then today I woke up and have a line of the spots/ bites up the back of my thigh.

I’m freaking out that we may have bed bugs. Any thoughts?

Hmm could be.
Are there any tiny spots on your sheets or pillows (bedbug poo!)
Strip the bed and look round the seams of the mattress, in the frame etc. Bed bugs are pretty tiny..at first.

Fingers crossed it's not. We had them when dh brought them home from a trip ..it was a nightmare.. we ended up binning all our bedroom furniture and carpets after having the house treated !

HappierTimesAhead · 25/08/2024 22:43

I would say it's quite possible. Are they itchy?

Look like mosquito bites to me

Possible but unlikely. Have you recently been away? You'd be very unlucky to have bed bugs. It's far more likely to be something like fleas. Do you have any pets?

longdistanceclaraclara · 25/08/2024 22:50

Have you been away? Any sign of them in your bed? I would assume it's just gnat bites

SunshineAndCloudy · 25/08/2024 23:00

They bite in threes. An itch like nothing on earth!!

Pepsipepsi · 25/08/2024 23:24

Have you been messing around in the great outdoors? I recently woke up with 30 bites and after a lot of googling I came to the conclusion they were harvest mites that I picked up whilst blackberry picking.

Cloakanddagger101 · 26/08/2024 07:28

They are really itchy and we have recently been away, got home a week ago. I think that is why my mind has leaped to bed bugs.

I’ve stripped the bed and not found any signs. Gave it a good hoover as well.

I’ve ordered some traps last night that will arrive today so hopefully I’ll know for sure later.

Keep your fingers crossed for me please!

Possibly, but we found ours swelled up massively for this who reacted. Some people don't have noticeable bites at all, some get huge ones.
Check your sheets and mattress for black spots, and check around your bed for the little skins they shed as they grow

Traps are no good if they're already on the bed. Steam clean the bed, the skirting and the bedside furniture

Bed bugs can be hard to spot. If you keep waking up with new bites, then it might be that. You need to wash all bedding and bed clothes at 60 degrees to get rid of them and check your matress as other have said. I think you can get spray for the mattress too. If you have a carpet I would recommend steam mopping it. Hopefully its something else as they are tricky to get rid of.

LostittoBostik · 26/08/2024 09:34

To be upfront - often steaming alone is not enough. It took us months of chemical treatments as well to get rid of ours. Seven months in total I think. It was traumatic. We also threw out two beds.

Cloakanddagger101 · 26/08/2024 09:46

We don’t have any pets so could it be fleas?

Livelyflatbread · 26/08/2024 09:55

Probably not. When I worked in hospitality and someone got bitten there was more blood. You'd see it on the sheets.

VanilleFraise · 26/08/2024 17:03

Is there a possibility this could be scabies? Insanely itch and frequently in a line.

LucyLocketLovesPollyPocket · 26/08/2024 17:09

Every year, this time of year dc2 gets eaten alive overnight, and only dc2. He must have the sweetest blood. At first I panicked bedbugs, but it's a reoccurring theme every year but only at a certain time. I now use Indorex throughout the house around the end of July and we've not had the problem since.

LoyalDreamer · 25/06/2025 16:16

Hi @Cloakanddagger101

Did you find out what these bites were? It will be really helpful to know!

We've had bedbug issues for the last couple of months and have been getting small bites like this after our third steam and chemical treatment. So we think we still have bedbugs?
