I just trod on a spider, he survived. I'm not so sure I have

Saw something black on the floor and usually I'm quick but my foot landed on it a second too late
I glanced down as I felt it scurry and then I did this sort of hop jump on the spot and it scarpered - it was huge.
Thankfully my DS showed it the door but I'm debating whether to chop my foot off or soak it in bleach over night Grin
I'll never forget that tickle feeling, it was like it was fighting back at my foot Confused
Please talk me down

Good. I’m glad it’s caused you discomfort. What a horrible thing to do.

BeachRide · 25/08/2024 19:14

One morning I trod on a dead mouse in bare feet (thanks, cats). The skull cracked and the intestines squished up between my toes 🤢

Sounded to me that it wasn't done deliberately as the OP said she tried to avoid it

I think she stood on it accidentally!

jollyhollyday · 25/08/2024 19:19

Yeah I usually love treading on living creatures bare foot??
In particular ones I've been terrified of since I was a child

Thanks to those who understood it wasn't a planned activity this evening

Apologies OP, I misunderstood.

GrazingSheep · 25/08/2024 19:20

Did you intend to stamp on it?
Apologies- cross posted

Once I put my sleeve in a jacket and there was a big spider in there and it ended up in my hand, I still shudder when I think of how it felt 😬

Apologies OP, I misunderstood.

I honestly think a lot of people should read OPs a second time before replying so quickly and clearly misunderstanding the whole point
I see it all the time on here
Please people breathe and read before jumping to the wrong conclusions

I've been checking all my clothes the last couple of weeks cos I knew spider season was approaching. Judging by this post it's here! 😭 I'm terrified too but got myself a spider catcher this year.

jollyhollyday · 25/08/2024 19:28

@Crinkle77 I usually walk around with shoes on at this time of year...

Yuck it’s horrid when things like that happen

I stood on a slug with bare feet once 🤮
It had somehow got into the kitchen, and I just wasn’t looking where I was putting my feet. I was washing my feet in the shower for about an hour afterwards.

susiedaisy1912 · 25/08/2024 19:34

The season of the 8 legged horrors has arrived. Had 2 in our house this week already. 😩😩

It can’t hurt you. Sorry, little patience.

ActualAl · 25/08/2024 19:40

I trod heavily on a slug once too, barefoot and half asleep in the dimly lit kitchen at 6am, while carrying DD who was only weeks old. I don't know how I avoided dropping her in my disgust and fright!
I then, (while standing on one leg) carefully lowered DD onto the kitchen floor as I couldn't do anything else while she was in my arms, then hopped over to the sink to get some tissue to scrub my foot, then wipe up the squished mess on the floor. I'm still shuddering thinking about it!

I love this, but just incase anyone didn’t know putting them outside can also kill them.

I am terrified of spiders but try to leave them alone. I know they’re not out to hurt me. I do check my shoes/clothes/bed thoroughly at this time of year but as long as there’s none in there we’re good!

PanettoneSoprano · 25/08/2024 19:53

Last week I put on a pair of sandals that I hadn't worn for ages. Felt something under my foot, slipped the sandal off to inspect, and there was a huge, hairy, curled-up dead spider stuck to the bottom of my foot. I hopped around frantically shaking my leg until DH removed it with the vacuum cleaner (he's a wimp too). Gahgahgah!

Mykittensmittens · 25/08/2024 19:53

Whether you tolerate, love, or hate them there isn’t anything nice about squishing one unintentionally.

I’ve had 3 horrible encounters I can’t forget.

1 - tumble drier in the garage. Put my fingers behind the door pull and felt what I thought was cotton threads - removed hand to find smooshed spider.

2 - involves slippers and thinking I really should tip out that thing that was annoying my toe for 10 minutes after putting them on. When I did it was a squashed spider.

3 - pregnant and very thirsty in the middle of the night - took a mouthful of water from a pint glass
in the dark and realised most of it was a moth.

Dearg · 25/08/2024 19:57

Sounds awful Op. I understand the horror.

I stepped, and squished a dead tic ( fallen off the dog). I couldn’t understand why there was a blueberry on the bedroom floor. A closer look reveal those nasty little legs , and blood, not mine, rather than fruit pulp 😱

jollyhollyday · 25/08/2024 20:05

These are some awful stories - I feel for you all
I wish I wasn't so petrified

Icanttakethisanymore · 25/08/2024 20:09

I once had to stamp on a mouse that was caught in one of those hideous sticky trap things my LL put down. There was no way I could free it without breaking its legs so I knew I needed to kill it quickly. I threw a towel on it at jumped on it. 🤮🤮🤮 still makes me feel funny to this day (it was about 15 years ago)
