It's awful.

Completely got away from me. My bedroom is just filled with baskets of clean and dirty washing. Bathroom needs doing desperately.
Kitchen hasn't had a deep clean in a month.
Bits and bobs just scarretered every where.

Have Completely lost my schedule and will to live too.

Yep. Shithole here and I'm not going to tackle it until they are all back at school.

I'm back at work Tuesday, DC1 is back Thursday (they are starting secondary so go in a few days early)

DC2 and DC3 back on 5th and then I'm off 5th and 6th so I'll totally gut the house.

I've been keeping on top of laundry, kitchen and bathrooms are clean enough (floors need a good steam as I've just been using the flash mop thingy) but the whole house needs some TLC.

I'm oddly looking forward to it.

i hate to admit it, but yes the house is a tip atm. Laundry everywhere, clothes all over the floors, shoe pile in the hall has reached over the top of the basket and spilled out all over the tiles, wardrobes need cleared out of old/too small clothes and the new stuff needs washed and put away. Bathroom, can’t even look at it, it’s one of those bathrooms that you deep clean and what feels like 1 day later it’s obliterated again!

I still have to finish the decorating and we bough two new beds that need assembled and the old ones dumped…. No energy for so much of this in betweeen work. Thank god tomorrow is a bank holiday.

I hear ya! DD12 has been away since Monday with her dad but I've been banging in the hours at work to make up for flexi I've taken in advance to spend time with her in the hols.

I've spent 5 hours yesterday and another 2 this morning cleaning and tidying her bedroom and her 'hang out' room as they were absolute shit holes.

Probably wasted my time as they will be back to a state within a few days.

I'm off next week so will get some cleaning done. Bathrooms are minging, wooden floors need a good steam mop, everything is dusty. I've kept on top of laundry but I've been warned she will be arriving home with a big bag of dirty washing. Good job the sun is forecast for some days next week!

I hate the phrase 'deep clean'

Untidy is different to dirty. I still did housework in school holidays so not dirty but obviously a bit more u tidy with kids stuff. Try to involve them in tidying up- they do at school. Put on a tidy up song that lasts about 4 mins and they have to get it done before the end of the song for a small treat.

I hate the phrase 'deep clean'

Why?
It's been superficially cleaned each day.

A wipe down with a cloth and spray etc.

But the windowsills are filthy. The cupboards have food splatters on them from cooking. The floors filthy. The oven need scrubbing. All the appliances need cleaning. The kettle needs descaling. The fridge needs emptying and cleaning

So it needs a DEEP CLEAN rather than the little superficial 'shallow' bits I've been doing.

No it's dirty, not untidy unfortunately.

I have autism and various other health issues and the change in schedule always throws me completely off, especially over summer, it's such a long time.

My house is much tidier than normal! I'm off work in the holidays so have time to get jobs done! As soon as we're all back to school it will be awful again!

greengreyblue · 25/08/2024 12:42

OP could you plan a holiday schedule for cleaning that you automatically switch to? Then at least next time you’ll be prepared. Also, make sure everyone pulls their weight. It will pay off.

greengreyblue · 25/08/2024 12:44

Also, save the bigger less regular jobs like kettle and oven for when you have more time. Try to tick one off a week. Concentrate on tidy and organised, clean surfaces and toilets etc

Draconis · 25/08/2024 14:06

I had a big clean yesterday and finishing off a bit today and a bit tomorrow.
It's made a big difference.
