Need dinner to take to friend’s house

HELP! I have committed to making dinner that I can take to my friends’ house half an hour away. I did lasagne last time so want something different. This is for tomorrow evening.

All ideas welcome!

Chilli or curry would be easiest

StormingNorman · 25/08/2024 10:04

Shepherds pie. I would love you forever if you brought a shepherds pie to my house 🤣

I’d take a casserole and some baked potatoes precooked and wrapped in foil. Just heat the casserole in microwave .

A tray bake of chicken thighs, chorizo, roasted new potatoes, red peppers, garlic, red onion, herbs. Slosh olive oil over it all, salt and pepper and any herbs you want. A very good and easy dish to transport.

Buy a big pork pie.
And some tomatoes.
And a lettuce.

Someone yesterday had been given a large jar of pickled onions, you could perhaps message them and they fax some over or something?

There's a great Leon recipe for chili made with braising steak. It's delicious and feels a bit more special than normal chili, whilst being really easy to make. This one. You can serve it with sour cream and tortilla wraps.

Well I’d go to M and S..

But chilli, moussaka, or a pre-prepped chicken tray bake you can stick in the oven

Curry too much work, shepherds pie too autumnal

Aubergine parmigiana?

AlisonDonut · 25/08/2024 10:21

Everyone's just going to list a whole range of anything but lasagna. Which surely you already know is out there?

This is baffling to me. Just choose something you and the people whose house you are going to like to eat and make that?

@AlisonDonut I am imagining you sat on your sofa, looking confused and scratching your head. It’s quite comical.

Maybe just keep scrolling the next time you see a thread that you think is pointless, I’m not hurting anyone.

Chicken Casserole,Beef Curry or shop bought pizzas.

I second the traybake idea.

I like chicken thighs with a pinch of thyme and 50g (nice sized chunk!) of feta under the skin, on top of baby potatoes, and large diced onion, peppers, courgette, tomatoes and whole cloves of garlic. Season potatoes and veg well with olive oil, thyme, oregano, salt/pepper, perhaps a drizzle of balsamic, before nestling chicken on top.

Could add a bag of pre-prepared salad on the side, or some garlic bread.

A good curry tastes even better having cooked today and reheated tomorrow - a chicken vadagam, lamb rogan josh, prawn bhuna etc. Cook the rice to al dente, pop in oven dish and cover with foil to heat in oven and get to perfect fluffiness. Make a bowl of tomato and onion "salsa" on the side (dice tomatoes and onions (red onions are great, a mix of tomato colours looks great, and you want about 5:1 ratio of toms:onion), season well with freshly ground black pepper. A jar of mango chutney and some puppodums or naan on the side (both bought ready made is fine) could finish it off.

Well yes but really come on! 100 people will waste time typing out their own recipes and you will say 'can't do that because' 100 more times before just doing something you and your friends want to eat.

Mil3nnial · 25/08/2024 12:22

I would do a chilli with rice or tacos or make beef chilli nachos to go in the oven there?

I would have said maybe pasta bolognese but similar to lasagne!
