Holiday souvenir

I’ve started buying a magnet from each holiday I’ve been on. I have only have two so far. One is from my trip to New York, which was over Christmas and one from a city break to London when I saw Stevie Nicks at Hyde Park!

Does anyone else do this? 😊

I do this and have a fridge freezer full of lovely memories. I always look out for Christmas tree baubles too. It makes it awkward when other people think you just collect magnets from various places and kindly bring them back from their own holidays. I don’t want other peoples holiday destinations on my fridge!

EmeraldIsla · 24/08/2024 13:23

I have lots of holiday Christmas decorations too - but only if they’re nice and proper Christmassy, not souveniry.

Scorchio84 · 24/08/2024 13:25

Oh god yeah it's a must in this household! I even have my OH's family on board now too..

Edit to agree with the Christmas tree decorations too

I actually like when people bring them back for me, it's not the same in fairness but I still like it

EmeraldIsla · 24/08/2024 13:29

Nothing from other people in this house either - if I’ve not been there myself, I don’t want it. I do have some non-holiday ones on there too.

Touring holidays take up lots of space 😆 - six American states added from one holiday last year.

MermaidMummy06 · 24/08/2024 13:29

I have a fridge & freezer both covered & still going.

It's such an easy, cheap souvenir & I can see them every day. I can see I'm not the only one fending off family buying them for me when they go somewhere... DH & DC get lovely little gifts & I get magnets I don't want!!

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 24/08/2024 13:30

We do - they are all over the boiler in the kitchen. We get very cross if we forget before we leave a holiday. I agree with pp re other people's holidays - I wouldn't include those magnets in our haul.

I've been doing this for a few years / I'm currently in a taxi on my way back from a trip to Europe with 5. O probably have around 30 now.

Decades worth of holidays in magnet form on my fridge. Great memories.

Aren't they just?

MewMew101 · 24/08/2024 16:03

I love the Christmas decoration idea 🥰

Memories of holidays and days out since 2018. We did have a really bling one from Monaco but it broke and smashes - it was all show!

Holiday souvenir
MyStylish40s · 24/08/2024 16:51

I only started this in the last 5 years or so. I have Barcelona, Mallorca, Bretagne (Brittany) and Venice on the fridge.

Really wish we’d started sooner.

I also always buy some sort of local souvenir, e.g a piece of pottery, and put it in a display cabinet

user1471538283 · 24/08/2024 16:53

I do this! And my DS has started buying me one as a present from his holidays!

I've always told my two to not buy souvenirs on holiday because it's tat. I'd much rather they have an experience than spend money on presents for me. But I hunt down a magnet each holiday. I love them!

HawkersEast · 24/08/2024 16:58

I started buying magnets on my first holiday as an adult, backpacking around Europe, and have continued ever since. I have a few rules though..
-have to have been there myself and brought it
-i don't include day trips/day outings except stadium visits for a sporting event (these have their own space on the fridge).
-pre DH magnets are kept on the bar fridge

I do, my freezer is slowly getting covered in magnet's lol

I've got 2 freezers and a fridge freezer and I'm filling them up! My children get me one when they go away as well.

@WelshMoth - we moved somewhere with an integrated fridge, so couldn't put ours on there either! Have got a whiteboard in the kitchen that we put dime on.
Also now but tea towels from places (and use them).

Aha! We have an old IKEA magnetic whiteboard here somewhere - that's a thought!

longdistanceclaraclara · 24/08/2024 13:04

@WelshMoth magnetic whiteboard in the kitchen?

Yes - thank you! Great idea x
