I'm looking for more hobby ideas so would love to hear what some of you do.

I have a young child so not much time for hobbies anymore. I enjoy reading and am in a book club that does a zoom meeting every 2 months. I also walk a lot. That's about it. I used to be in a choir and do yoga.

JLT24 · 24/08/2024 16:18

Yoga classes (live online classes from home 2-3 times a week)
Reading - fiction, self development and poetry
TV
Podcasts
Music
Baking
Theatre
Live music concerts
Cinema
Eating out
Travelling

Next on my list - Wall climbing

I am very limited physically so can't do a lot of my old hobbies but

  • I volunteer
  • I am teaching myself to sew
  • I read a lot
  • I like finding new places to visit
  • I try and keep my ability to understand french vaguely alive

Not the most exciting list but its a good mixture of different things that I can manage

I’m in the WI ( actually a member of two different groups) and spend a lot of time at various meetings and sub groups. My favourite ones are the Craft group
( have a go at different crafts), Gin group ( drink a variety of gin), Cake group ( bake a cake and sample other peoples cakes) and a Board games group. I probable have 8 or 9 meetings each month so fills my time nicely.

I also read a lot, love crocheting things mainly to donate to various charities and also dabble with a few other crafts like quilting, paper cutting, card making, needle felting and adult colouring books.

I still have a lot of spare time as I live alone and retired early for health reasons so spend a lot of time on my iPad!

Embroidery and crossstitch, knitting, miniature painting (that's painting very small pictures, not painting tiny models), making 1:144th scale houses and furniture and 1:48th scale houses and furniture, quilling, jewellery making, flower resin work and anything else that takes my fancy.

FlipFlops4Me · 24/08/2024 17:06

I walk and cycle, I do crochet, cross stitch and I like reading, and I meditate.

I do vanishingly little in terms of hobbies these days but would love to do more:

Reading
Renovation/interiors (plenty of research and planning takes place but no time or money to make much actually happen)
Exercise of any type - I'd like to do more dance
Always wanted to write a novel too, started it years ago and have never found decent chunks of time/mental energy to continue.

Honestly can't think of anything else as it all feels a bit pie in the sky when all I ever do is work and housework! Really must organise my time better to do some fun things too.

Are there any corners you can cut on housework? I think carving out a bit of time for fun is important

twistyizzy · 24/08/2024 19:21

Absolutely agree! I think I must be just inefficient tbh, standards are by NO means too high...although I definitely need to get my dds and dh a bit more involved with more structure. They're all lovely and will do bits, but we're all naturally untidy - and I'm the one with the least tolerance of living like students!

Bohomovies · 24/08/2024 21:13

I have a terrible habit of turning my hobbies into jobs so now I am only left with crochet and reality tv as hobbies 😁 keep having to resist the urge to sell my crochet!

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 25/08/2024 07:06

Running
Lifting weights, I have a set of kettlebells and a mat at home. Both of these I do before the others are up.

I also like walking and as I live in London I am currently working through all the walks on the Jubilee Greenway.

Reading, I am trying to do more of this as I also spend a lot of time scrolling.

Whattheduck · 25/08/2024 07:30

Swim
Classes at the gym
Read
Family history research
Listen to podcasts usually true crime, paranormal and conspiracy theories
My Dd is off to university in September so I will have more time to myself as my Dh works away a lot so I would like to join a choir (was in one many years ago)
