Late period after morning after pill? HELP!!

RainyLoftNoise · 24/08/2024 07:50

I took the morning after pill on 23rd July and then had a sort of mini period from about 28th July to 1st August.

I have had sex since then. We use condoms but I know they aren't 100% reliable.

My cycle is pretty regular, approximately 31 days, and my last period started on 14th July.

The last week or so my breasts have been very tender - which is unusual for me, it's not a normal premenstrual symptom - it has always been the first sign when I've been pregnant.

I am freaking out, because I absolutely cannot have any more children, I've actually got a doctors appt coming up early sept to talk about getting sterilised.

I need to take a pregnancy test, but I'm not sure if at this point just an ordinary one will suffice?

Am I 10 odd days late based on my last true period date, or am I still not due because of the post morning after pill bleed?

Have tried googling but cannot make out this answer. TIA

Bump?

I'd start with any pregnancy test. You won't be too far along for the hormone that it measures to have declined - HCG would increase in the first trimester before declining in the second, and you definitely can't be that far along?

Could be that the map has messed with your cycle, but yes you need to do a test to find out one way or another, no point in stressing until you know either way.

Do you think I can do an ordinary one? I don't really want to spring for an early test unless I have to... since they're more money. Maybe I should ask a pharmacist?

Take a test, OP.

The MAP isn't 100% reliable.

You should be able to take any test as presumably in terms of dates.

FloordrobeIsGoingToGetME · 24/08/2024 08:22

Sorry you're so worried Op. I hope you get the negative you want xxxx

RainyLoftNoise · 24/08/2024 08:24

Thank you. So do I. I am in my 40s, have children with additional needs and I absolutely cannot have any more.

I also have a newish man and I really don't want to have to go through this at all, let alone this early in relationship.

Oh well, no point stressing when it could all be fine.

I think I was 31 or 32 days late when I took the MAP and then my cycles were haywire for months afterwards

Olika · 24/08/2024 08:26

Someone I know took MAP and her periods came two weeks late.

RainyLoftNoise · 24/08/2024 08:35

That makes me feel much better. I seriously hope it's just the MAP messing with things

Let us know how it goes, OP.

Bobbybobbins · 24/08/2024 08:39

Definitely take a test. If it is positive then at least you will know and you have options.

RainyLoftNoise · 24/08/2024 12:37

Phew / it's negative. I will test again tomorrow morning first thing to be sure but I spoke to pharmacist and she said based on dates it would show up if I was at this point. I'm so relieved.

To add my friend's initial periods were two weeks late and also 2nd cycle was delayed. After that they normalised.

Hoogieflip · 24/08/2024 12:42

@RainyLoftNoise
Just want to say I'm so relieved and happy for you! 💐

FloordrobeIsGoingToGetME · 24/08/2024 13:15

That's great, OP, I'm delighted for you xx

RainyLoftNoise · 24/08/2024 16:00

@Olika thanks / that's really useful to know.

Also thanks to all for taking an interest. I have just got back from holiday and felt stressed about this all week 🤦‍♀️
So glad!
