If you couldn’t tolerate alcohol during perimenopause..

Were you able to again after menopause? I get a three day hangover after half a glass of wine now and it’s just not worth it. Just wondering if there is any hope!

I hope there's hope! Come on someone because my hangovers are becoming legendary!

I can do one drink
And that makes me feel rancid in the night.
I now have a rule that if I haven't had a drink by 5pm I don't bother.
Day drinking better because I can metabolose it before bed. But I still can't have more than one or two or the flushes are next level.

My "tolerance" has improved in peri, as long as I'm dosed up on hrt, reflux meds and antihistamines. Can't drink red wine, still, but a couple of small beers or white wines are ok. Can't do unplanned drinks, though! And I still wake up at 3am if I've had anything. My aunt is out the other side, and is able to drink red or white wine again, now, without needing preventative drugs.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it gets worse! I was a wine lover, but started getting raging hangovers in peri menopause. Then I had my ovaries removed so I went post-menopause overnight. Now I can’t drink at all! But on a positive note, I don’t even feel like drinking anymore which is easier than really fancying a drink that ends up making you feel awful.

I have some tips, but it’s very much trial and error. Medical menopause with full hysterectomy in my late 30s, taking oestragel and testosterone and now mid 40s. Sadly carbs are your friend with alcohol, not bread but pasta. If I’ve eaten a bowl of pasta I can have a few glasses of wine. If I’ve had a few night bad sleep there isn’t any point in me having a sniff of alcohol as it will give me a migraine for three days. I need to be properly hydrated, so for me this means having had little caffeine and an electrolyte at some stage. If I can spritzer my wine with soda or have a long g and t I’m less likely to have a hangover. I’m still working up to red wine sadly, I’m up to a third of a glass so far, but I can have neat single malt over ice and am fine. To be honest, it’s not always worth it, and I never go over half a bottle of wine or two measures these days.

I gave up as it used to (and still does) brought me out in a hot angry red flush! My Mum and sister also experienced the same. Even tho I take HRT it still happens.

Terrible hangovers on wine and bad mental health

switched to vodka and tonic, no real hangovers but far too easy to drink, it became a real problem.

I am now 8 months sober.
