Yoto & yoto mini

Gemmajp · 23/08/2024 18:56

Hi looking for advice on the yoto and the yoto mini for my girls who will be 7 and 2.5 when I plan to get them these. Definitely getting my 7 year old the mini but still undecided for my toddler. If it’s better to get the same or the bigger one. As wondering if she could change the cards/ songs/ stories herself. She’s quite independent and wants to do everything herself. Will probably use it in the car too. Any suggestions or advice appreciated

My children are 7 and 3 (nearly 4) and we love our Yotos! I would definitely get a mini for your 7yo, they are so portable (and a bit cheaper). For your 2yo I would recommend the full size, just because it has bigger images and is generally a bit easier for little hands to use. Get adventure jackets for them both - with the jacket, it's still easy enough to carry the full size Yoto around the house.

Are you planning to give them for Christmas? If so it's worth waiting for Black Friday as Yoto have done discounts in previous years. You can also get a discount if you use a referral link/code, happy to share mine if you want it.

Sorry to jump on, @NameChange30 , I will have a just turned 3 year old, slightly behind in development so it sound like the bigger yoto will be better...is it still easy to use in the car aswell?

NameChange30 · 30/08/2024 18:55

Tbh I think the full size and the mini are both good, the full size is slightly better for little ones because of the bigger icons and the nightlight feature, but the mini is easy enough to use... if you're likely to use it in the car a lot, I would recommend the mini just because it's smaller and therefore safer, but you can also use the full size in the car (we have!)

That's not very helpful is it 🙈🤣 We have both and love both! That's the problem!

Mummyboy1 · 30/08/2024 19:21

@NameChange30 thank you! I think I will start with the bigger one,he may not even want it in the car I guess.

I absolutely love our Yoto it is honestly the best children’s purchase I have ever made! My son is as into now at 6 as he was when he was 2!

we started off with the big one (mini didn’t exist when we got it) and it was great cause he was younger and he loved the big picture and easier to turn dials. We did take it in the car and on one plane trip. We found it a bit annoying for a plane trip as limited with hand luggage and got a mini when they were released for travelling.

so I think bigger one unless you are going to be doing lots of plane and train travel then mini.

If you go for the mini make sure it's the new 3rd generation one. I had the older model and it broke and they recalled them all. They were very good about it. I bought the big one and LO loves it. Its helped bed time at aged 3. I will buy a mini for Christmas for in the car

NameChange30 · 30/08/2024 20:18

They haven't recalled the original minis as such, they have issued new charging cables to everyone who has one, as a precautionary measure, and if anyone's mini becomes faulty they won't repair it, I think they offer a replacement (newer) model instead. You can't buy the original mini, it was out of stock for absolutely ages because they just stopped selling it while they investigated the safety issue, and then they announced the fix and the launch of the new (2nd gen) mini.

The full size player is the 3rd gen but the mini is only 2nd gen, it's a newer product and the 2nd gen original was already on sale when the mini was first launched.

sugarandplum · 30/08/2024 20:21

We have had both full size and mini and I much prefer the mini. It's so easy for little hands to control it. Much easier for them to handle imo. I have a 3 & 5 year old.

A big hit!

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 30/08/2024 20:23

We have minis for our 5 yr old and 2.5yr old (were 4 and 1.5 when we got them). They love them!

Sorry for any confusion caused.

I have a 2 year old and a 4 year old. They share a mini. Will get another one soon. The 2 year old has been using it independently since around 18 months. Perfect for the car, flying, at home, everything.

Likemyjealouseel · 30/08/2024 20:47

We don’t use it in the car, I play the cards on the car’s sound system using the app.

Mummyboy1 · 30/08/2024 21:03

Oh well now I'm super confused about which one to get 😂

MultiplaLight · 30/08/2024 21:07

I don't think there's much difference apart from price!

If you want two, go mini and one each.

NameChange30 · 30/08/2024 21:07

I'd say the full size one then you can see how he gets on with it. In the car if you don't want to take the Yoto player you can still play the content using the app on your phone (assuming you can link your phone to the car through Bluetooth or CarPlay then it will go through the car speakers). Then if you end up wanting to take a Yoto with you a lot when travelling you could always get a mini later.

NameChange30 · 30/08/2024 21:08

(That was in response to Mummyboy1!)

Mummyboy1 · 03/09/2024 21:27

@NameChange30 thank you! I've been looking at them more, and the full size looks more easier/ friendly for my son to use.

Vimaybe · 06/09/2024 07:40

I would go the large size for your toddler, my son is 3 and loves his for bedtime, eatting and general play. Only exception to that is if you only really plan on using them in the car/out and about then 2 minis will be better. I would also recommend joining the Yoto fb group, I've had lots of help and recommendations from there. My 10% off code is below:

We got the mini for my 2.5. She’s now 5 and still loves it. It’s still big enough for them to use fine I found!
