John Lewis or Selfridges for bra fitting in London?

I’m thinking of going for a bra fitting, but I’m around an H or possibly HH and I’m not sure if John Lewis sells those sizes any more as they might have reduced their size range? Would Selfridges be better for brands like Fantasie and Freya? Or is there somewhere else that would have more choice in my size?

And no, I will not be going to Brvssmo as I can’t stand the place, it seriously gives me the creeps and I just can’t bear it. It’s really important to me to go to a normal shop and have a normal experience.

Not interested in Rigby and Peller either as it’s not worth the money as my size changes so frequently, and last time I tried it they had very few things in my size anyway.

I'm a very different size to you, but I recently had a good experience at Fenwick, if that's an option for you. Appointment took an hour, compared to John Lewis 15 minutes.

Which branch was it? The one in Bond Street has closed.

Interesting - I’ve has another look at the appointment booking site and it seems that Selfridges appointments last 45 minutes, whereas John Lewis are only 15 minutes. Not sure how you can get it done in 15 minutes, not that I’ve ever timed it. But I would like to know if it’s worth going as there’s no point if they’ve not got anything in my size.

Go to Rigby & Peller instead

Bentalls in Kingston is very good and has a lovely range of brands.

There is also bravissimo on Margret st( just off Oxford Circus)

coffeeandsleep · 23/08/2024 19:21

Following with interest. I also am not a massive fan of bravissimo.

I don’t know whether JL or Selfridges is better but I’ve heard marks and Spencer bra fitting service is good.

Between the two I'd say selfridges is probably better but Ann Summers was really good. They know their lingerie in there and had a lot of different shaped bras to fit my weird shaped chest.

Didn't charge for the service either.

Smallinthesmoke · 23/08/2024 19:25

John Lewis Oxford St was laughably bad, I mean seriously the fitter didn't give a shit.
I gave up and went to Bravissimo - sorry!

mambojambodothetango · 23/08/2024 19:25

Sorry, I didn't see that bit.

Edited

Does Ann Summers actually do proper bra fitting? I must say I’m a bit reluctant as it’s important to me to go to a normal shop. What cup size do they go up to nowadays? Are they properly supportive bras rather than flimsy novelty stuff? Genuine question.

It isn’t negotiable. I won’t step foot in Brvissmo. It makes my skin crawl.

@tectonicplates must be Brent Cross as Bond Street closed earlier this year. Fenwick have always been good for fittings

Balloonhearts · 23/08/2024 19:39

The biggest I saw in there was GG I think but could probably order bigger. I'm only a C so wasn't really looking. Yeah they had proper bras not just lacy frilly stuff. I was in there about an hour I think, it was a few years ago so can't remember that much, just that I liked the bras.

They didn't charge me for the fitting so all you have to lose is time.

DillyDallyingAllDay · 23/08/2024 19:53

I was fitted at Selfridges many moons ago and would defo recommend; the lady did then point me in the direction of bravissimo because they had a much wider range in my size. I'd suggest you go to Selfridges and then shop online; try and return!

Lotsofpots · 23/08/2024 20:03

If you're happy to travel a little further than Oxford street, The Pantry Underwear just off Upper St in Islington is the best fitting I've ever had. And their selection of underwear is gorgeous.

Bemusedandconfusedagain · 23/08/2024 20:54

Personally I've found both rubbish. I have moat luck with proper old fashioned independent bra shops. Pretty Things in Buckhurst Hill is excellent if you don't mind a trip on the Central Line.

ssd · 23/08/2024 21:36

You need Elomi op. They do HH. You will probably only get up to H in fantasie and freya aren't supportive enough for your size. I'm guessing JohnLewis will be ok.

Fantasie and Freya both make bras up to a K cup. I’ve been wearing their bras for years and they have enough support. I just don’t know if John Lewis sell anything larger than GG. Tried Elomi before and didn’t get on with them.

Could I ask why Bravissimo makes your skin crawl? Genuinely curious, I don't mean it to sound antagonistic.

Walkingtheplank · 23/08/2024 21:47

I love Bravissimo. I'm intrigued too as to why you don't like it.

Loopytiles · 18/04/2025 13:40

Am another Bravissimo hater! bras I’ve had from there have all got scruffy very quickly. Poor quality. Also v low stock recently.
