Just for fun. Would love to just hear people's thoughts and reasons behind this one.

Canada, but the cold is very off-putting.
The Netherlands. Lovely people (although very tall). Small and easy to navigate. Cycling. Not too far away.

Well l have a Villa in Playa Blanca in Lanzarote...so probably there.
But I've been lucky to visit many countries and l love Austria and Switzerland.
But definitely not the USA.
I love living in the UK and just visiting my villa and holidaying in other countries.

CocoapuffPuff · 23/08/2024 12:10

France. Somewhere around Normandy or Brittany.

Billyandharry · 23/08/2024 12:19

Would love to live in France or Spain. But Brexit screwed that. :)

ChickenandaCanofCoke · 23/08/2024 12:20

Singapore

Anewuser · 23/08/2024 12:21

Malta. Like the climate, the people are friendly and I could drink their water without getting the sh1ts.

Jk987 · 23/08/2024 12:21

Australia 🇦🇺. I have some family and friends over there.

Frequency · 23/08/2024 12:22

Australia because they speak English and have a similar culture. Canada is too cold and the US is too trigger happy.

Netherlands for me too

Maybe Norway. I’ve been there a few times and been very impressed by the cleanliness and efficiency of the place. People seem to be friendly, most speak English as a second language - yes the weather is variable, (depending on where you live, although it can get surprisingly warm in the summer), but the Norwegians just seem to have life sussed. Admit that it’s more expensive than the UK, but if you work there, the salaries would be that much higher too.

Alternatively, Slovenia. Absolutely beautiful, clean country, efficient, small population and lovely people. Beautiful weather too, and cheaper than the UK.

Same with Estonia. Only thing that may put me off living there at the moment though, is its proximity to Russia…

FloatyBoaty · 23/08/2024 12:26

I did consider quite seriously moving to Barcelona in my 20s… brexit put paid to that (I’ve always worked freelance. Pre Brexit this was no problem. Brexit made it 1000x harder and it just put me off massively). I speak the language, love the culture and the way of life. Maybe one day!

My mum was a 10 pound pom and grew up in Aus, before coming back to the UK. When I was younger I didn’t see the appeal, but Australias approach to work life balance becomes more and more appealing the older I get…

DiscoBeat · 23/08/2024 12:27

BC. We go there on holiday and love it there.

SingingSands · 23/08/2024 12:27

Can it be another UK country? 😄

Australia. They speak English. It’s warm and we have family there

DinnaeFashYersel · 23/08/2024 12:29

Australia or New Zealand

Similar cultures to UK and beautiful. Good standard of living. Good healthcare and education. Liberal politics and social attitudes.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 23/08/2024 12:30

America- Missouri. First step towards getting my visa already taken

needhelpwiththisplease · 23/08/2024 12:32

A Greek island.

Jaxhog · 23/08/2024 12:32

Canada. Not sure which part. I have family all over, but probably the west; far away from the politics! And I have a Canadian passport.

For fresh air, lovely people and great scenery.

KnittedCardi · 23/08/2024 12:33

Italy. Pick your region carefully and the weather is temperate. The food. The people. Actually very similar to Brits, always complaining, but they are a bit more stoic than us. They dislike authority and paying taxes, but are very community minded.

I have family and friends there too.

CanwetalkaboutRalph · 23/08/2024 12:35

Playa Blanca, Lanzarote

Everytime we visit I'm always looking out for an apartment to buy (if I had the money 😕)

LesserSpottedAlligator · 23/08/2024 12:41

Singapore. I grew up there till I was 13, loved every minute.

WildWildWestCoast · 23/08/2024 12:41

English speaking - New Zealand. Specifically the South Island. Similar climate to the U.K., nice people, and liberal minded.
Non-English speaking - northern Italy. I love Italy, and the mountains in particular.

luckylavender · 23/08/2024 12:41

France. Did my degree in French & always wanted you to live there.

Eyesopenwideawake · 23/08/2024 12:46

Portugal - already here for 17 years and counting!

whirlyhead · 23/08/2024 12:46

New Zealand. I'm British but grew up there so have permanent residency. It's a gorgeous country, and it does have culture (despite what you read on mumsnet about it!!) Plus, the food is great and the people are genuine. I also have friends and family there, which helps.

It is a very long way away from everywhere else, though!
