LEEDS Festival anyone there?

Just got 2 weird texts from DD18
"It's Carnage here mum"

Of course no phone signal now/not connecting...

I'm panicking and it's 200 miles away.
Anything happening? Is it just the weather? Or something else?
Thanks in advance from a worried Mum.

do you have be contact details of anyone she is with?

BetFreda · 23/08/2024 09:17

We’ve had pretty epic weather overnight, high winds and rain. I imagine that’s what’s caused the carnage.

Blingu · 23/08/2024 09:19

It’s the weather
super high winds and general chaos. Lots of people up early wet and exhausted with damaged tents

BabaYetu · 23/08/2024 09:22

It’s the high winds. Thankfully no rain, but lots of tents blown down and young adults not sure how to put them back up again.

The wind is scheduled to drop around lunchtime, @Twix42 , so it should get better then.

Twix42 · 23/08/2024 09:23

Ahhh thank you
We are no where near.
Another text came through just now about the wind, she says they are OK though...
My mind was blown into overdrive!!

They aren’t opening the gates to more people until after 12. Most of the security fences etc have blown over so are being set back up again.

Worst hit are the nice tall tents with plenty of headroom. The cheap low ones are mostly fine.

Unnerving as hell for young people, especially those who are not experienced campers, but so far everyone seems fine.

ringmybe11 · 23/08/2024 09:28

It's been really windy in the early hours of the morning but the weather is due to settle. We had a power cut a short while ago but are now back on. There'll be branches down and tents may have blown away. If you've heard from her then that's a good sign as I'm sure the worst is over and it's just a case of sorting things out now.

I'd be the same. Tell her to be clearer via text.

My dd14 texts me saying she's dying when she's thirsty or something but she's in the same house 😬😂

Gangof7 · 23/08/2024 11:49

My daughter is there too - it will be the weather. I’ve managed to keep in touch with mine sporadically and they’re ok apart from a tent pole breaking 😬 the wind should be dying down now.

Mobile coverage is pretty patchy, it’s not always easy to get through.

Especially when the concerned parents of 70,000 kids are trying to ring 😉

Watching as DS is there too - it's so windy here!

NoNameisGoodEnough · 23/08/2024 19:45

Yup DD had a broken tent pole too. Woke up to the tent collapsing on them. Now fixed thank goodness! But we had a panicked phone call first thing too. It's all part of the adventure!

Glad I've found this thread! I haven't heard from my teen since 8:30am and I can't get through to her. Really worried but hoping it's just a dead battery!

The signal is very patchy.
