Anyone good with maths / percentages?!

I'm an Etsy seller and need to have a rating of 4.8 to qualify as being a star seller. Someone recently left me a negative review which has taken me down to 4.7, can anyone work out how many 5 star reviews I need to push me back to 4.8? If possible please

[(49 x 5)+(3 x 1)]/52
=248/52
=4.7692

You need another 5 star (any rating above 4.7 is good. Any rate below including a 4 will bring your average down.

IamSmarticus · 23/08/2024 09:24

By my calculations, you need 80 x 5* reviews in order for your score to reach 4.8 (assuming no more 4/3/2/1 ratings).

Unmute · 23/08/2024 09:26

I reckon another 26 - so 75 total. That's if all your reviews are 5 stars from now on

TherealmrsT · 23/08/2024 09:30

Yes, agree, 26, had to get pen and paper out to solve equation.

Sorry, I agree with the others - I did mean 80 reviews in total (not 80 x 5 star)* which would mean 75 x 5 - I can't see how to edit my post!!

Depending on where etsy change the boundaries:

Another 10, 5* reviews would get you to 4.75 average - which could round to 4.8.

Otherwise, I agree with those saying another 26, 5* reviews to get to 4.8

My guess is that they round. The previous average before the new 1* review would have been 4.77.
Therefore I would assume 10X 5* reviews are needed.

applecake78 · 23/08/2024 12:13

Your current score is a weighted average.

49 times 5 stars
Plus
3 times 1 star
=248
Divided by the total number of ratings
49 + 3 = 52

248/52 = 4.7....

Therefore
Assume you get 10 more 5 star ratings

You now would have 59 ratings at 5 =295
Plus
The same 3 times 1
=298

Divided by 62

=4.806...

As people said above it depends on how the algorithm rounds up the result.

That's very helpful thank you. Hopefully I will get enough before the end of the month to make a difference 🤞🏼

According to the calculations above do I still look on track to get to 4.8 with 2 more 5star reviews?

Whilst the calculations above are correct that 26 more 5* reviews will make your average 4.8 this is missing something vital.

Ratings are only calculated to 1 decimal place.

Your current average is actually 4.703703704 which rounds to 4.7 to 1dp.

Once your average is above 4.75 it will round to 4.8 when quoted to 1dp.

You only need another 10 5star reviews for your average to be 4.75 if you get no more reviews of less than 5 star, and so this will be displayed as 4.8. Whether this triggers the status you seek is a policy question for etsy but it may be that it is enough.

Wigeon · 27/08/2024 13:39

As a buyer, I'd probably be pretty reassured that you have 57 out of 62 positive reviews and might guess that the negative people were just grumpy. Are their comments obviously a bit unreasonable?

remakeandrenew · 27/08/2024 16:55

It's more about qualifying for star seller so I come top with search results etc, it makes a big difference with my sales in a month
