Is anyone awake? In agony with foot

The bottom if my foot has been a bit painful for a few days. Nothing unbearable. Today it was a bit worse, I was limping. Went to bed and woke up an hour later to go to loo and am now in real pain. Sharp pain in arch of foot and now ankle feels broken. I can't put any weight on it. What could it be? Please don't say gout. Toe is fine. Will go to A and E in morning if I can wait that long. And if I can get dressed and get downstairs! 😫

Could it be Plantar fasciitis? I've never known pain like it!
Ice helps

LiterallyOnFire · 22/08/2024 00:57

It does sound a bit like DH's description of PF.

Have you tried ice or heat, OP? I have neuropathy and confusing the nerves with temperature can help., even if it doesn't have any inflammation to bring down, IYSWIM.

Plantar fasciitis maybe? I get this after standing or walking for prolonged periods.

I also thought PF.

Massage the underside of your foot AND the inside top of your calf, just under your knee- google the plantaris muscle- see if that helps?

Rest and anti inflammatory measures are also never wasted.

Agreed, that would have been my first thought.

PF.

Do you wear supportive shoes?

Overweight?

I think there is a brace you can wear in bed its worse after bed as your foot goes into a funny position.

It is painful.

Assuming no obvious recent accident ot injury could be the cause-My first thought was PF, like pretty much everyone else. But could also be cause if you have recently worn shoes you don't often wear, new shoes or lots of different types of shoe in short succession. Eg sandals in the morning. Hard soled dress shoes in the evening then trainers the following day-this can also cause very similar symptoms, this can also cause pf itself, so if both are true. You know how to avoid or minimise the risk-rest, ice elevation, etc etc and invest in a good pair of insoles with arch support. I would only be concerned and seek medical help if no better or much worse over the next 3 days.

Also, soaking in a bowl of hot water, won't really improve the injury, but it might feel nice and give a little temporary pain relief 😉

If it's PF these will help.
Leaning forwards facing the wall hands on it. with your feet on tip toes and moving up and down on them, flexing the front of your foot up and down.
Rolling a tennis ball under the foot whilst sitting on a dining chair
Rotating your ankle
Runners and supportive shoes
I had to go for physio to get mine sorted and I can't really wear ballet shoes any more but it hasn't come back. The pain was unreal.

CheeboygeeCheeboygee · 22/08/2024 01:12

Thanks everyone! I had already thought PF but now my ankle feels broken. I can't massage the bottom of my foot, it's too painful to touch but will try heat or ice if I can find a way to walk to the bathroom!

I'm a bit overweight. I have noticed it hurts more if I change shoes. Right now I can't even put my Birkenstocks on though.

Where you lose arch support you ankle kind of sits wrong and can feel like its broken. Obviously im no gp, but I think it's unlike you broke your ankle without knowing how you did it. It's more like it needed resting a few days ago, and because you've carried on using it, it's now very cross with you and making a point that it shall no longer be ignored! Give it a little tlc, make a fuss of it, and promise it you will be much more considerate in the future. 🥰

But in all seriousness, listen to your body, if you feel it needs to be seen by a Doctor, then that definitely what you should go with x Good Luck!

DumbassHamsterSitterPerson · 22/08/2024 01:23

Last time I had PF the pain ended up in my ankle and knee as well.
I'm not a Dr. So can't say it's definitely that, but it's amazing how far the pain spread!

CheeboygeeCheeboygee · 22/08/2024 01:36

Have just literally gone downstairs on my bottom to get a tramadol.

Fellow sufferers, does it go away at some point?

Supposed to go on a walking holiday on Saturday 😑.

It will heal-but were still only guessing at what wrong don't forget. If you really want to go on you walking holiday, you absolutely have to stay off it until then, and I would definitely get it looked at before then, just in case I'm wrong, it doesn't happen often, but it's been known 🤪
