Baby crying at night - worried about disturbing neighbors

Hi there

We recently moved into a terraced house. I am a little worried about my 9 month old crying and waking the ndn up. I know babies cry but I can't help but feel anxious when it's been more than a couple of mins of crying late at night when everyone's asleep (during the daytime i will give him a good few mins to self soothe if I know he's fine)

HV suggested sleep training and said to leave him for 5-10 mins before going in and using my voice to soothe him but that seems like a lot at 2am when his crying literally echoes through the room.

He goes down perfectly for day naps and bedtime so it's not like we can try the training out earlier in the day either

Should I knock and mention we are sleep training and ds is in the midst of teething/regression? Or am I overthinking this?

Tia

Aww it shows that you are a thoughtful person to think about them. I think just giving them a knock is a lovely idea. My downstairs neighbour brought me up a wee card and earplugs when her little one was going through it. It hadn't even bothered me as I'd sleep through anything but it was a nice thing for her to do and we're now good friends.

Over thinking. Have the neighbours mentioned anything so far about crying at night?

And also just because the HV suggests something doesn't mean you have to do it. Do you want to sleep train?

Agreed.

If my kids have been particularly noisy as babies overnight when I bump into my neighbours I am apologetic out of politeness. I have had a few different ones over the years as one side is two flats and both sides rented. All of them have reassured me and been understanding.

I also didn't sleep train either of my kids. DC1 was sleeping through the night from about 6 months and DC2 not until 16 months. They're all different.

No the neighbours haven't mentioned anything about it!

We are definitely open to the idea of sleep training so hoping to give it a go this week

Thats so kind of your neighbours! @Throwawayme
