My dh went online to get his motorbike insurance. He was on a comparison site so filled in all the details found a good quote which he then bought.
A week later the company emailed to tell him they were cancelling his policy. He rang them to find out why and was fobbed off with them saying they don't know why!
The only thing he can think is that he may have put the wrong first line of the address in (like Tree cottage when our address is Tree House)
This is now causing issues when trying to find another bike insurance policy, very few will cover and are more expensive.
Also he is worried it will cause problems when renewing his car insurance.
Is there anything we can do?

I'd contact the insurers again and try to get it reinstated. Escalate the issue if need be.

Thank you. I'll tell him to be a bit more assertiveSmile

I agree escalate .. it could cause problems if he doesn’t . I don’t know isn’t an answer .. then pass me to someone higher who does know the answe

Does he have any accidents or points?

DPs got cancelled when his provider said they couldn't provide cover because he'd got 3 points for speeding in his carHmm and he had a no fault claim. Then I bumped his car and that meant they wouldn't provide cover because there was more than 2 'incidents' on his record. He sold his bike in the end because it was too expensive to insure.

No accidents or points. The address mistake is the only thing he can think of.
He is going to ring the company tomorrow and hopefully get some answers.

Absolutely he needs to get on the phone and not let this drop until it’s reinstated or explained properly if it’s a simple thing like the address needs putting right. Having insurance cancelled can cause all kinds of headaches, it’s something future insurance will ask about.

Good luck.

Surely when he got the insurance he got sent all the documents? So should be easy to check if address was wrong? Also the details will still be on the quote on comparison site.

So a good result in the end. Dh rang them and they tried again to say there was nothing they could do, he asked to speak to her manager, put on hold twice, came back with the same answer and that the cancellation would stay on his record for 5 years with them maybe more with other insurance companies!
Just as he was about to give up he looked at the notes he had taken from my advice which I gave him from your reply's and said he was going to take this further to the complaints departments and/or the ombudsmen. Immediately she said to send 3 forms of if/ verification and it could be sorted out.
The next day he received an email apologising for his difficulties and distress and that the cancellation would be wiped from his record.
So a massive thank you to all who replied 😀

Good for you at perseverance. Shocking bad service from them.

Starlightstarbright3 · 25/08/2024 18:49

Great result .. Doesn’t take away the stress does it .

Ariela · 25/08/2024 23:33

Just to note @Izzabellasasperella do ring them back and double check his cancellation really HAS been removed in a couple of months time, as you may well find it's still on the record....
