Last year I was diagnosed with mild coronary heart disease, including thickening of the arteries. Unusually, my cholesterol levels seem to be fine, all good and normal however it appears that some cholesterol is "leaking" into my arteries and causing problems. I don't have enough medical knowledge to describe why this is happening.
I was prescribed statins and some statin related drugs all of which had side effects, some of them particularly unpleasant. I also tried some plant sterols from Holland and Barratt which didn't help either. Now I am taking nothing as the cardiologist seems to think I'm not too bad and they will will deal with the problems when I deteriorate.......
Has anyone any suggestions as to how to manage this? It seems to me that as I can't take statins I've been left to get on with it and it's worrying. I do feel unwell, hence the tests which established the coronary problems in the first place.
My diet is fairly healthy but I do take medication for some other conditions such as high blood pressure and there is a long family history of heart problems.
I don't know if there is anything I can do, but I'd be grateful for any helpful suggestions.
