How often do you change your car tyres?

I've never replaced a car tyre unless it's needed it (too worn or has a puncture)

Itsmells · 20/08/2024 18:21

You change them when there's 2mm tread left or if they've been on so many years that they start cracking.

Or if you're trying to ascertain how long they should last, too many variables. Size of car, journey type, mileage, driving style etc

Mine are checked every year at the service and the garage send a video of them using a gauge and reading out the depth of the tread. I don’t drive a lot of miles so I’ve only bought a new tire after a puncture.

Mine change once every year or so, I drive about 8k miles a year on mostly country roads

When they reach the legal limit or get damaged. Some people use winter tyres so probably swap twice in a year.

ridingfreely · 20/08/2024 18:33

@Emming blimey that's a lot! My car is 5 years old and at 40k miles and I have only just had to replace the two front tires following advice after my service and MOT

Knockon · 20/08/2024 18:37

When Lee at the garage tells me to - either service or mot 😂

Loveandhatred · 20/08/2024 18:37

Front ones should last about 20,000 miles and back ones more than that. Totally depends on loads of factors e.g. my drivers side has worn quicker than the others as I rarely have passengers. Small cars tend to need them more often than big as the tyres are smaller.

WorriedRelative · 20/08/2024 18:50

When they are worn close to the legal limit. It is very easy to check yourself

gamerchick · 20/08/2024 19:54

When they need it and it depends on what kind of tires you get. aptany tires don't last long, about 6 months on my car. davantis last a bit longer. Then you go up the scale to michelin / Goodyear etc. Then is your tracking right. Tires wear uneven if it's out and so on.

It's a how long is a piece of string question.
