How long do you usually wait for a reply?

How long does it take for a hairdresser to reply back to you?

My hairdresser is self employed, renting a chair in a salon and doing her own stuff. I need to get highlights topped up. I didn't feel comfortable ringing her in case she's with a client. I sent her a message this morning.

It's been three hours and she didn't respond. I know there's so many different variables like maybe her first client of the day was late and the appointment ran into the next. I don't know. I know she only books one client at a time. When I get my hair done, once the bleach is applied I am left under a heat lamp for a while. She usually has a break at this stage for about 15 or 20 minutes.

I mentioned that my roots are growing and I asked her if I need to update my highlights and I asked her about what to book on her online system - she has a few different options like full head highlights, half head, scattered, just the roots.

I presume she had some space in her morning this morning to maybe read a message and reply. Or at least give a thumbs up to at least let me know that she got the message.

She uses her phone for taking payments and there was picture uploaded this morning to her socials.

So she has her phone on her but she never responded.

I am just wondering - for people here - how long do you wait to hear back from your hairdresser? Does it take a few hours or up to a day or do they respond quickly.

I presume she had some space in her schedule today but she never responded.

I didn't ask something complicated. I was just asking her what do I pick on her online booking.

She usually gets booked quickly and a lot of September is gone already and I would like to get a slot that's still available towards the end of September.

Do you know if she's even read your message OP?

I WhatsApp my hairdresser, and sometimes he doesn't read the message until a day or two later - he's always super busy and often works until 8pm. Sometimes he posts on socials as well, but it's doesn't always respond to messages until regarding appointments until he has a decent block of time to respond to everyone.

I think you're being a little dramatic over this, it's likely that she's very busy.

Phone her!

It's evening time now so I won't phone her now. Will I phone her in the morning?

Does she not want to help me?
Why doesn't she want to do my hair again?

Maybe you're a bit intense.

My hairdresser will reply at the end of her working day. She works solidly with just enough time to nip to the toilet or grab a drink or quick bite between clients. She doesn't stop for lunch even. Anytime a self-employed hairdresser isn't actively with a client, they're not earning. So I wouldn't expect her to leave free time to text during the day.

That's your hairdresser.

My hairdressers working times are stated at 10am until 5pm. I don't know if she works over that but those are the hours advertised online.

I will leave it til tomorrow morning/early afternoon and if there's no response I will phone her. I don't feel comfortable phoning because maybe she's with a client. I always presumed messages would have been better.

She isn't your personal stylist obviously so I expect she's busy
Honestly, it's not worth winding yourself up like you are.

I didn't bombard her. I sent her one message this morning.

I came on here to seek clarification if it's common for hairdressers to ignore a message.

Was it one or three? Your later post says you sent 3.

Why didn't you just book the appointment first then message so it could be altered to whatever you needed?

Clearly she has a full schedule, she might just not have gotten round to replying to everyone yet. It's not unusual to not get a same day reply.

nozbottheblue · 20/08/2024 18:23

I would book yourself in online, so you know the time is devoted to you, then message her to say you've booked in online for highlights (or whatever) but you're not sure if that's what you will need. Then there's no panic about not getting an appointment when you want it, and she will have plenty of time to sort out what you actually need.
And you can chill!

I sent one message but I suppose there was a few things within it but it was also short.

I mentioned that I have inches of roots now and I need to get something done to my hair but I don't know what. I suggested more highlights and I asked for that. I asked what I book online.

She has partial highlights as an option online. Will I just book that and send her another message to say it's booked and she can alter it and change it if she needs to.

@Fluffydogears
She. Is. Busy

Why don't you understand????

Christ i actually feel sorry for her, if you're like this over a text what are you like as a client!

Fluffydogears · 20/08/2024 16:44

I don't think she wants to do my hair.
What the did I do wrong on her?

Why can't she just decline what I asked this morning instead of ignoring my message.

Are you trying to be comedic?

SensibleSigma · 20/08/2024 19:12

Maybe she finds she is more organised if she does all her messages at a particular time, like 8am-9am, or 7pm - 8pm.

That way she doesn’t make mistakes and miss things.

Look, I do admin as part of my role. If I relish to respond before I’m ready, I’m likely to make a mistake and fail to make a note of what I’ve said etc.

Thats when I end up booking two venues for the same meeting, or two staff members for the same event.

She’ll have a system. You need to work with it.

TossieFleacake · 20/08/2024 19:18

I wouldn't answer you because I wouldn't want you back in my salon with such a shitty attitude.

She is your only hairdresser, but you are not her only client ... other clients do exist.

You are being ridiculously demanding, it's not even been 24 hours since you messaged her.

Boopbeepbeepboop · 20/08/2024 19:25

Hopefully she has seen this post and realised it's her bat shit client who posted it and is not going to reply. Get a life, good god you sound crazy.

Calliopespa · 20/08/2024 19:56

I think she’s pulling our legs. I notice she’s declined to deny it.

She left you under a heat lamp? Do salons still use these, I haven't been under one of those after highlights/colour for about 15 years!
