What’s the worst coffee shop do you think?

I needed to kill some time before my bus and the nearest shop was Starbucks.

I don’t drink coffee but I thought a cup of tea would be fine. Nope. It was horrendous. It was honestly the worst tea I’ve ever had in my life. I couldn’t drink it and I had to pay the pleasure of £5 for it!!

Next time, I would rather walk 10 mins to a greggs

Starbucks coffee is the worst too. Too much milk, not enough coffee - even when you order a double shot.

LBOCS2 · 20/08/2024 10:37

Costa, in my opinion. The coffee is both weak and a bit burnt and the milk is watery. I'd rather have no coffee than Costa coffee.

I don't mind Starbucks for a ridiculous 'treat' drink - I don't think their coffee is great, but I'm not there for that, I'm there for an over-processed sugary concoction 😁

Justploddingonandon · 20/08/2024 10:38

In my experience none of the chain coffee shops do good tea. I honestly don't know how they can mess it up given it's clearly made using a tea bag, but they do.

Starbucks because the coffee is awful. I don’t understand how they seem to be so successful with coffee that tastes like that.

AHFBridport · 20/08/2024 10:38

I used to regard going to Costa as a treat but they've gone downhill lately, very tired surroundings and there are always flies on the cake display in my local branch.

CatsLikeBoxes · 20/08/2024 10:39

I had an iced latte from Starbucks once which was so disgusting I just through it away though it pained me to do it because it was so expensive!
I think independent shops are much nicer usually. In the big chains only certain drinks are nice. You'd think tea would be hard to get wrong though!

Ihavenotaskedyou · 20/08/2024 10:39

I'm with you on that one. I don't drink coffee, if you eat in the Starbucks mugs are over sized, heavy and the tea awful.
I think costas my favourite for tea, out of the chains.
Dc1 says Starbucks coffee is better than Costa. So it matters what your order is.

Edingril · 20/08/2024 10:39

Any chain ones

CatsLikeBoxes · 20/08/2024 10:40

Threw it away! Not through 😮

Thecatatnight · 20/08/2024 10:40

Yeah Starbucks is awful unless you want something sweet & milky like a coffee with syrup, hot chocolate or Frappuccino.
I also think Pret coffee is awful as it always tastes burnt.
Costa can be ok & so can Cafe Nero. Best of a bad bunch!

RaspberryWhirls · 20/08/2024 10:40

Nero is the best high street coffee chain but I'd advise to always go to an independent coffeeshop.

If stuck on the high street then I'll go to Nero, I wouldn't touch Starbucks or Costa with a bargepole.

Bilbonne · 20/08/2024 10:41

I personally don't like Starbucks

Summertimer · 20/08/2024 10:41

Starbucks - not had it for years but it’s generally considered their coffee is too weak, sizes too large and any cake too expensive.

I have time for cheap and cheerful Greggs. The one near our railway station has very comfy chairs and coffee - whilst nothing to write home about -is competitively priced

MermaidEyes · 20/08/2024 10:42

See I love a milky coffee. Starbucks is my fave!
Don't like Muffin Break, find their coffee way too strong.

bubblesummerxx · 20/08/2024 10:42

I got a hot chocolate once from Starbucks and it was disgusting I think Starbucks is overrated

I prefer good old costa lol

mytuppennyworth · 20/08/2024 10:42

I would never give Costa a penny of my money unless they offered a full apology and made some serious reparation for the pain they have caused cancer victims and their families by their ridiculous, unrealistic glorification of double mastectomies.

mydogisthebest · 20/08/2024 10:43

Starbucks coffee is disgusting. Tastes like it has sat and stewed for hours

SoManyBadgers · 20/08/2024 10:45

I don't drink coffee out of the house because I find it's always horrible (Starbucks especially) but I am partial to a chai latte, and Coffee#1 does a great one.

I bought a Starbucks caramel frappe thing recently, it was expensive and completely revolting. I left it. I used to enjoy their pumpkin spice drinks but in recent years they've been undrinkable too. I really don't understand how Starbucks is still making money!

MonsteraMama · 20/08/2024 10:46

Starbucks. Coffee is gross, tea is gross, even the novelty drinks are just sugary slop (and I say that as someone with a major sweet tooth), food is overpriced and mid quality at best, what's the point of them?

Costa a close second redeemed only by their watermelon mint cooler which I'm addicted to 🙃

Nero best of a mediocre bunch.

Best coffee/tea I've ever had in the UK was at a tiny little café in a pet shop/doggy play area. No idea whether they hired some sort of beverage god as the barista but it was so good I go every weekend now.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 20/08/2024 10:49

Nero is my favourite, I think the rest are on a par. I like my local independent coffee shop the most, but that’s also because they have amazing cakes. DH doesn’t like the flat whites from Costa as he says they’re too large.

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 20/08/2024 10:50

Costa is disgusting. My usual drink of choice in any coffee shop is an oat flat white but in Costa it tastes like a very milky weak latte. Starbucks oat flat white used to be quite nice a couple of years ago but I think they've changed something as it's very 'meh' now. Still prefer it to Costa though.

Nero used to be pretty good but that's also gone downhill. Pret isn't too bad.

But overall I tend to avoid chains unless there's nothing else. Although even local cafes can have shit coffee and it genuinely pains me to pay (usually) over 4 quid for shit coffee.

Rockfordpeach · 20/08/2024 10:51

I really really like the green tea from Starbucks

bigyellowduster · 20/08/2024 10:53

TinyYellow · 20/08/2024 10:38

Starbucks because the coffee is awful. I don’t understand how they seem to be so successful with coffee that tastes like that.

This!

It tastes like they have burnt the beans.

Strangely enough the Starbucks in the USA is lovely, why would they use such different coffee?

Bilbonne · 20/08/2024 10:54

I generally go in M&S as I like their coffee and I can generally sit by the window in our local one and I get drink vouchers with my credit card and their cake is better than Costa and Starbucks

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 20/08/2024 10:55

Starbucks. I hate the ordering system, the coffee's weak and not hot enough. But Nero is always the worst for cleanliness - there are three branches in my nearest city and they're all hovels.

Costa's the safest bet for reasonable coffee and hygiene.
