London tube using contactless card and Android phone?

Hi all

Very uninspiring question here but would be really helpful to know.

I'm travelling to London this weekend and will use my contactless card on the tube, however my DS would be using his Android phone to tap in, so the payment would be via Google pay, which is linked to my same bank card and account.

Will they both work? Or just the first of us to tap in to start on the tube.

I'm concerned that the first person through the barrier will be fine but the second won't get through as the same card number/account has already been used.

Thanks if anyone knows!

I am almost certain that won't work because it's charging the same card. You could buy your son a visitor Oyster card before you arrive, or a normal Oyster card when you get there (but you have to pay £7 for the card). Or just use a different bank card.

Also, how old is he? If he's under 11 he doesn't have to pay anyway.

He needs a different card. Can you use a credit card instead of the debit so his phone would still work?

Thank you, that's what I was concerned might happen.

I'm going with both teen DC and was going to use my debit, my DS his phone linked to it, and my DD another debit.

Was hoping not to have to buy oysters or travelcards as we're just there for the day and won't use the tube much.

I've always used a debit card, would an Amex credit card work too if it's contactless?

Good to have found out in advance though, thanks for replying!

Yes, Amex is accepted.

@BlackberrySky brilliant, many thanks.
