What journey would sue less petrol....

Sorry if this is a stupid question... but which journey would be most cost effective with petrol....

Journey 1. 64 miles, 1 hour 45 mins driving. No motorway.
Journey 2. 85 miles, 1 hours 20 mins driving. Includes motorway.

A chunk of time on the fast roads is more fuel efficient.

Journey 1 - shorter distance and slower both use less petrol.

So would that mean I'm better to take the motor way option?
It's definitely the fast journey despite being a much longer one!

If you have Google maps it will tell you which route is most fuel efficient.

Very likely 2. Option 1 is longer time driving at lower speeds which will likely involve stop start, traffic lights etc.
Surely you'd just drive on the motorway?

I would have thought option 2.

I'm pretty sure in Google maps you can change the settings to show you the most eco friendly route.

Each car will have its own optimum speed in terms of fuel efficiency but it's typically 40-50mph but you want to maintain that speed and avoid stop-start traffic
