Getting very sentimental rings cleaned- any suggestions where/ price?

My mum died a few months ago and I'm still feeling quite raw and emotional about it.

She wanted me to have her rings, and they are now in my possession. There are two that fit me without me worrying about them falling off and I really want to wear them as everyday rings.

Both of them have kind of recesses/holes underneath the diamonds and they need a good clean. I'd also like to have them checked and to get some kind of idea for value in case I need to think about insurance. I don't care about the price, but they have a huge sentimental value to me.

Would a high-street jewellers be best for cleaning and valuation? There is a very fancy independent jewellers in my town but no idea of price on their website and feels a bit out of my comfort zone.

Clean them yourself. Soft toothbrush. A little bowl with warm soapy water. Do not use any kind of detergent. Let the soak for a while then gently loosen any dirt and it will float away. Place them on a piece of kitchen paper to dry.

This is a very good diy cleaner. Drop rings in liquid, scrub gently with little brush. It works a treat. Can't help you with a valuation, maybe phone fancy jewellers and ask what the price to value them might be?

An independent jeweller is much more likely to do it onsite rather than sending them away. They will also give the settings a check over to ensure the stones are safe.
It is absolutely fine to ask for a price before committing to anything, please don't feel uncomfortable.

If you are in the south I can really recommend Venus Diamond in the Lanes in Brighton. The woman who works there is an expert on cleaning rings and also really kind and sensitive.

There are a couple of other places in Brighton that do it, otherwise anywhere in Hatton Garden.
