National Potato Day 🥔

OldFred · 19/08/2024 07:00

Playing waffle (online word game, not the edible type!) this morning and it informs me that today is National Potato Day - who knew 😅

So I'm planning to celebrate the official day of the spud by eating chips and crisps!
What's your favourite way to eat the potato?

Any way 😁

LochKatrine · 19/08/2024 07:08

A day without potatoes is a day wasted.
Boiled up new potatoes with butter, or King Edwards fried in oil and garlic. Or a nice big baked potato dripping with cheese...mmmm
Happy Potato Day!

So true! (to both comments)

Let's start the day with hash browns 😄

A fried egg on top of a hash brown? I'm firing up the frying pan as we speak.

Watching as I have a bag of baby new potatoes that I bought a couple of weeks ago for reasons which I can't remember and I'm trying to decide what to do with them.

Potato scone for breakfast

Baked potato for lunch with potato salad on the side (yogurt & mint dressing)

Mash AND roast for dinner.

Crisps all day.

Done <mic drop>

Boil them and add butter. Mix olive oil and crushed garlic with a little balsamic vinegar and drizzle....mmm

Right you all need to stop now that I'm at work and there's not a potato within munching distance!

Grate raw potatoes with egg and flour. Fry in hot oil. Deeelicious.

veritasverity · 19/08/2024 11:43

It's it's national potato day, should we be harvesting them and eating them today? Shouldn't they be allowed to let their roots feel freedom for one more day, and sit quietly in the veggie rack until tomorrow?!
Baked potatoes are my favourite. That's lunch for today, I popped them in the oven before I saw your thread, otherwise I might have given them one more day of life before getting munched!

Any way of cooking them is excellent, potatoes are god's own vegetable.

If I'm feeling bougie fondant potatoes are my favourite way of having them.

Otherwise just classic goose fat roasties, with a glass-crisp outer shell and insides like fluffy, spuddy clouds. Mmmmmm.

murasaki · 19/08/2024 11:55

A creamy garlicky dauphinoise for me please.

DiscoBeat · 19/08/2024 11:58

Roast Maris Pipers in sunflower and coconut oil with sea salt flakes. Definitely my favourite!

LochKatrine · 19/08/2024 15:50

Some good tattie recipes here! My mother always made lamb chops with neeps and tatties and that was always my favourite meal.

OldFred · 19/08/2024 16:08

@LochKatrine Sounds lovely! How were the neeps and tatties cooked?

Gnocchi tonight instead of the usual Monday pasta then 🤣

afaloren · 19/08/2024 16:20

We’re having mash with dinner 😋
