Location wedding - gift?

I’m going abroad for a good friends wedding next week. We’ve turned it into a holiday but it’s costing us more than we would usually pay due to the country we are visiting.

What is the general consensus regarding a gift? If we were in the UK I would of course buy a gift/voucher but since it’s costing us a lot to attend I’m unsure. I’m aware it’s costing the B&G ALOT of money also.

I'd get a gift but it would be a token gift - something thoughtful rather then expensive.
