Child benefit stopped because asked to switch to my name

Hello

We have been getting child benefit for my 10 year old for 10 years. Unfortunately for some reason it was applied for in husbands name , but as a stay at home mum I now want it in my name.

They stopped the payments became husband failed to send a letter to confirm the change back, no surprise, his memory is hopeless ( such stress it causes me but never mind )

What we do now ? It paid for her to do a weekly thing ( she'd autistic) do I reapply in my name now ?
Thanks 😊

Just reapply, it can be backdated up to three months.

It will be fine, you'll just get whatever you're owed fairly quickly.

Have you been a SAHM for the last 10 years? If so, it really should have been in your name all along.

Iloveeverycat · 18/08/2024 16:25

Should have been in your name from the start as you don't lose your pension contributions if a sahm when receiving child benifit. You get this up to age 12.

You may he able to get the NI credits transferred into your name - have a look at www.gov.uk/national-insurance-credits#:~:text=You%20can%20transfer%20your%20credits,year'%20for%20State%20Pension).
