Toyota RAV4 or Honda CRV

I have been looking at these two cars and can’t decide. Both Hyrid. The Toyota is 2017, the CRV is 2022 . CRV has done 19,000 miles, Toyota has done 37,000.
looking for lowest fuel costs, reliability, space in back seats and boot space. We don’t often need the rear seats but occasionally need to fit two adults and baby seat .

Interested to hear what others think.

CRV all day long. I'm just selling my 18 yr old CRV and feeling very sad about it. Love that car never had an issue. Would average about 40mpg.

Husband had a rav and it caned fuel but was still reliable.

What did you get? Around £15,000 max.

Cant go wrong with either really. I'd go for whichever has the best local garage for repairs, unless you have both nearby.

Maddy70 · 18/08/2024 18:37

My rav was a piece of crap.

Go Honda

QS888 · 18/08/2024 18:37

I have the CRV - love it ! Lots of boot space and comfortable in the back. 72k miles so far (7y old) and whizzed through the MOT no issues.

ImWearingPantaloons · 18/08/2024 18:45

We're on our third RAV4, never ever let us down

WonderingWanda · 18/08/2024 18:48

Get a Volvo XC60 instead.

TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers · 18/08/2024 18:50

On our second CRV, and will likely go for a third when we finally upgrade again. They’re fabulous and like a Tardis. Fits three Labradors in the boot (jic you needed to know 😂)

Aquamarine1029 · 18/08/2024 18:52

My daughter just bought a new CRV and she has a baby, too. She absolutely loves it.

We had a Volvo years ago and it cost us a fortune when it needed repairs.

Google 'RAV4 theft'. Older RAV4 models are easy to steal as they have a security vulnerability. I wouldn't buy one again for this reason.

ShuvieTupya · 18/08/2024 18:55

You cant get a 2022 CRV for £15k so is that a typo?

GorgeousTulips · 18/08/2024 19:09

We are trading in our own car .

ShuvieTupya · 18/08/2024 19:12

So the RAV4 is considerably cheaper then? Just go for that then keep up main dealer servicing and it'll have warranty to 2027.

Girlwithapple · 18/08/2024 19:12

I've had both (older models) and found both really reliable. The CRV is my current car and, like a PP, mine is 18 years old and it is still going strong!

Spuck · 18/08/2024 19:13

I have a different model of toyota and when speaking with the dealership about the different models, I remember them saying that the RAV4 drinks a fair amount of fuel. So that said, if it is between the two and if the Honda is more fuel efficient i’d go for that.

That’s helpful, thanks.

They are both second hand. The Toyota is older and five grand cheaper. I love the way it drives too.

Oh dear. I didn’t know that .

I bought a CR-V last year and I love driving it. Very comfortable, lots and lots of space, Honda's are very reliable. Highly recommended.

Oh really? Why?

It was never out of the garage. Many many things went wrong

InterestQ · 18/08/2024 20:15

Honda is very reliable but their parts can be expensive when they need replacing. That said they don’t need replacing much so probably worth it.
