We are driving to Canary Wharf today in an ULEZ compliant car but because it is foreign we have to pay, I think? I've looked at the website and it says you can register your car and in 10 days (!) they will give you an answer. Has anyone done this? Thanks!

(As an aside, I am amazed at how many parking apps/schemes/websites just don't work for foreign cars and foreign mobile phones....grrrrr....is the UK closed to tourists?)

If the vehicle is ULEZ compliant then you don’t need to register it and you don’t need to pay. Just be certain that your vehicle is compliant, and you will be fine. Registration isn’t for definitely compliant vehicles, it's for those in doubt because they're borderline in age, or exempt despite age, disabled etc or who are non compliant and need to pay.

It goes on year of manufacture and does the vehicle meet Euro 6 specification, so if you know you're definitely compliant you're good to go, but yes in my experience the system will struggle with foreign number plates and anything different from standard.

(We’re not closed to tourists, we’re just a few weeks on from fourteen years of a very short -sighted government as well as a London mayor who sees motorists as pure evil to be taxed and harassed out of existence regardless of their circumstance or needs. Sorry you're affected and hope you enjoy your trip regardless.)

Thanks but I don't think they can know we're compliant as they use the DVLA database which we aren't on! Website is a bit confusing though!

sorry not to have an answer, but if in doubt we just pay (in advance on the day). we only go into ULEZ areas rarely so just pay up. It is easier than worrying, and you are unlikely to get any help from a council/government department on a Sunday.
