Itchy hands! Driving me insane!

Can someone please tell me what’s going on 😭

I have instantly itchy hands, it comes and goes, started between my fingers and has now spread to my palms. Yesterday my scalp, hands and groin was affected by intense itching.

i rang out of hours and a nurse called me back and said allergic reaction to take antihistamines. I’ve been talking the tablets all day and although it helps elevate symptoms as soon as the 4 hours are up it comes back. Just my hands now I think but the itch is so intense it’s making me feel ill. I can’t sleep at all.

If it’s an allergic reaction, how do I know what I’m allergic too? I haven’t touched anything different recently. I’m scared that I might have a worse reaction soon.

Pompholyx (dyshidrotic eczema) ?

Kipperthedawg · 18/08/2024 01:29

Could be a shampoo allergy if scalp and hands.

I'd maybe ring 111 as it could be a liver issue

SantoriniSunrise · 18/08/2024 01:32

What do you mean you've been taking the tablets all day - surely it's only one a day?
It sounds like eczema, steroid cream will help.

Ok, are you taking Piriton, that's every four hours. Maybe a modern antihistamine such as Loratadine or Zyrtec might be more affective.

If it continues you need to go to the doctor to find out the cause.

beautifultrama · 18/08/2024 01:58

Get your liver function checked

coxesorangepippin · 18/08/2024 02:02

Hand foot and mouth

Do you have small children?

Secretroses · 18/08/2024 07:40

Agree with PP, get liver function checked...

DilemmaDelilah · 18/08/2024 08:11

If it's an allergic reaction you can take more than one type of antihistamine at a time, and different antihistamines work better for specific things. So if chlorhexadine (piriton) isn't working for you, try cetirizine, or loratidine, or fenofexadine - and you could have cetirizine AND loratidine, with one in the morning and the other in the evening.

Do you have any kind of a rash OP? Because it could, perhaps, be scabies?

stairgates · 18/08/2024 08:13

Does it happen more at evening/night time

BathTangle · 18/08/2024 08:15

Second vote for pompholyx, as it started between your fingers. If so, you will need strong steroid cream from the GP.

FriendlyRobin · 18/08/2024 08:18

I thought phomphylx but I've only ever had it between my fingers. That wojdlnt be on scalp and groin would it.

Is there a visible rash? Is it worth showing it to a pharmacist? Or trying 111again?

SmokeyToo · 18/08/2024 08:22

I get skin issues from stress - usually severe dermatitis on my hands, but I've had psoriasis and other skin conditions in many other places on my body at one time or another. It's just the way I react to stress, apparently.

But I also second the liver function check!

JusWunderin · 18/08/2024 11:29

I put some moisturiser on this morning and that’s seems to have soothed it slightly.

There are some little red dots on my hands, and some tiny little blistery ones pop up occasionally. The red one are flat. Had some rashes over my body over the last few days but they’ve come and gone within a few hours.

I do have two small children. Hand foot and mouth did cross my mind. I haven’t notice anything with my mouth though?

Look up phomphylx. Mine is always much worse in summer, the sweat makes mine flare up. It feels like it itches down to the bone!

VanilleFraise · 18/08/2024 18:16

Look up scabies.

FriendlyRobin · 20/08/2024 07:49

Have you seen anyone? What is it?

sunsetsandboardwalks · 20/08/2024 07:57

It sounds like eczema but you'll need to see the doctor for treatment.

JusWunderin · 20/08/2024 12:58

Just been to the GP this morning. Treating for eczema this week, got to go back next week if I’m still itchy as she suspects possibly hormonal as my periods are irregular too.
