He's an idiot isn't he?

My cat has just walked past the water bowl on the kitchen floor and asked to go out of the window. I let him out, and watched him walk to the water bowl outside the back door, filled with water from the exact same tap, and drink from that instead. I opened the back door so he could come back in that way, and he's just come in the window.

I despair.

He's a normal cat.
mine will drink from the shower, the bath or muddy plant pots. But not from her water bowl.
one of my previous cats would drink from the toilet. Until the day he fell in!

Is the indoor bowl near his food? Cats will avoid water close to a food source, I think it's because it's more likely to be contaminated "in the wild".

Like every species (including us) this behaviour is instinctual and pretty much hardwired.

Plus, you're the designated door opener. 😂

I've had cats all my life and we currently have four. This one is as daft as a brush.
😂

It probably tastes a bit different? Like us picking a can of coke or an orange juice? Haha.
Mine loves drinking from the bowl near the door, but rarely drinks from the one near his food bowl.
They also drink from dirty puddles sometimes?!
Totally normal cattism 🤣
