Where have the insects gone?

We're mid way through August and I've noticed I haven't seen a single wasp. Not one this year.
Similarly, I have seen very few bees and butterflies this year. Is it due to the wet weather?

They're all around here 😂 our garden is buzzing with butterflies, wasps, bees and all manner of other bugs! They definitely did show up later than normal though.

surfacelevelstuff · 17/08/2024 17:23

We've destroyed their environment, perpetuated the 'eww a bug kill it' attitude thru generations and put down fake grass and non-native plants.
Having said that, the inclement weather is a bit of a factor.

Littletreefrog · 17/08/2024 17:28

Apparently because everybody went mad with fake grass and decking etc during lock down we have lost a large number if insects due to them losing their habitats.

Livedandlearned · 17/08/2024 17:38

There are plenty of insects in our area.

Lots of bees, some wasps, and lots of others. The only ones I've noticed a decline in are ladybirds.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 17/08/2024 17:40

We are in a nature reserve area and when weeding and turning the earth I can’t see anything apart from works, before there were spiders, creepies etc now nothing.

They're all around my house, in my back garden and trying to get into my bathroom whenever the window is open.

menopausalmare · 17/08/2024 17:52

The leaf cutter bees have trashed by lilac and there's a nice selection of insects in my garden. Loads of damsel flies at our local moor. Sadly, the slugs have been out in force this year, too.

PianPianPiano · 17/08/2024 17:53

I think all the bees are on our lavender bushes tbh, absolutely heaving with them!

Beenhereforever1978 · 17/08/2024 17:55

Yeah they're mainly at my mum's house. Do you need some? I have a jam jar I can collect them in 😁

I can currently hear the wasps chewing at part of the roof.

Decafflatteplease · 17/08/2024 17:56

They are all in our garden 😂

WTAFisthisnonsense · 17/08/2024 17:56

We have lots of insects in the garden. We live rurally so perhaps that is why.

@mushpush

i was going to say the same! Plenty here!

shellyleppard · 17/08/2024 17:57

Op only just started getting the bees again past two weeks.... normally get loads. Seen one wasp but slugs every night 🤢😂

Overtheatlantic · 17/08/2024 17:58

The bees are all over my cat mint. No squirrels this year but two hedgehogs, down from four. 😔

FilthyRich · 17/08/2024 17:59

They are in my garden.

GrazingSheep · 17/08/2024 17:59

Loss of habitat is a huge factor in the severe decline of the insect population.

Abelard40 · 17/08/2024 18:02

I have noticed huge decline in wasps here in Bristol, among many others.
