Recommendations for home ear wax removal kit

Not the most glamorous of topics but can anyone help?

This has been an on off issue for me for years especially when I overdo processed food.

GP no longer offers service and I can't travel at the moment and would prefer not to have a home visit from an independent person.

Otex Express. The drops fizz in your ear while they break down built up wax. But what is the link between processed food and ear wax 🤔

I was wondering that too.

I was suffering last week with a waxy blocked ear. I got some olive oil drops from the chemist. I put the drops in twice a day for 10 mins and it cleared within 5 days. I found them more effective than Otex drops.

I've suffered from excessive ear wax since I was a teenager.
When the nurse at my GP surgery stopped doing syringing, I got myself an Otex Express combi kit, and it's brilliant.

Think I paid around £9 for it.

Hi. I've been doing the ôtez. Helps a bit. They do a kit too? Will look into that, thanks.

Not sure re link, read it somewhere and the only time I have beeen completely free of the issue was when I went on a 2 year health kick with no processed food at all. I have slipped on all that and sure enough, ba k comes the problem.

dont use otex, from my experience it will soften the wax but it will not bring it out (of course this depends on the amount of wax present) its going to make things worse for you down the line, because ever though it bubbles and feels like its dissolving the ear, its basically like hydrogen peroxide, its drying out your skin and leaving it very very sensitive. Usually i have to wash a patients ears after they use otex because now the wax is all on the ear drum and we dont suction on the drum.

So what can we do?

If otex says their products work I’m inclined to believe them. They would have had to jump many hoops and tests to prove their claims.

SisterMaryLuke · 22/08/2024 17:42

Over the years, I've been to various nurses/doctors/Specsavers and they all say not to use Otex as it causes more problems. Just use plain olive oil for a week.

mominnovations · 22/08/2024 17:49

olive oil or almond oil if your not allergic to nuts, and alot of it.
i tend to use alot of oil ONLY when i feel blocked and NOT regularly, and what i mean is that i spray my ears 3 or 4 times, so it basically fills my ear with oil for about 10 15 mins at night and lay on your side to let it seep in and soak the area, and just do that for 3 to 4 nights. sorted

Russkirk · 18/01/2026 18:27

Otex Express doesn't work. It literally does not break down the wax like ordinary saline drops. Bought this rubbish and and spent quite a while trying to soak and rinse. Nothing yellow came out at all!!
