Full fibre broadband - anyone got rid of home telephone line

We now have full fibre available in our area and I'm looking at upgrading. Some of the cheaper suppliers don't offer a home line. We rarely use the home phone nowadays - it's only used by FIL calling us but he will call the mobiles too.

Is there any disadvantage to giving up our home phone number (we've had it for 30 years ) and using mobiles only? I understand the old telephone lines are to be switched off in a couple of years but don't want to make a rash decision.

Haven't missed my landlines at all in 3 years- just had to learn how to find my phone using Google on the laptop.

We got rid of ours about 5 years ago and have never missed it.

We got rid of ours years ago, we moved to internet calls with our broadband provider then ditched that. We just use our mobiles for calls now.
One elderly relative was very concerned but realised they could actually reach us more easily on mobile and now loves to FaceTime

We had stopped plugging our land-line phone in, routinely, as we got nothing but constant cold calls. Haven't missed it one bit.

Check the details of the home phones before you decide to keep it.

we upgraded and kept the home phone it was £5 extra per month, it’s connected to the router now.

what I didn’t know was that before all calls between 7pm and 7am were free and we assumed that was still the case when we switched.

we made a call on it the first month and we were charged nearly £5 for that 1 call as now all calls are paid for and no free time at all

Haven't had a land line for years, can't imagine ever using it now tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you all for your replies. I think we'll get rid of the landline, especially as I don't want to be charged £5 for a call - thanks @BakedBeansforabrain for the heads up!
