Any advice on what to buy for a one year old? For birthdays/Christmas

Or little ride on scooter thing or trolley with blocks to push?

If buying for someone else's one year old, do not by anything large, electronic, or which makes annoying noises or has flashing lights - the parents will hate you. Better to go for a few nice books or a nice item of clothing.

Budget? I usually get a Grimm's rainbow as a first year pressie.
