I have lovely gin - but I'm not a fan of Tonic. What can I use?

Been bought some lovely gin.
I'm not a big fan of tonic water - it's the fizz factor.

Alternatives to mix it with. Would prefer to be able to still taste the gin's flavours.

Orange juice.
Lemonade.
Or

Old fashionade lemonade (if you have such in the Uk).

MoMandaS · 16/08/2024 18:13

Lemon juice and honey, shaken with ice. In a gimlet (lime juice or cordial). But to really taste it, in a martini as PM suggested. If that's too strong you could let it down with some mineral water.

It is great on its own!

Can also be served with ice and lime.

I like (very lightly sparkling) water and sliced twisted lime or lemon with mine on a hot day.

I cannot stand tonic either. Lemonade is a win! I open it an hour prior so it’s not too fizzy.

Gettingannoyednow · 16/08/2024 18:26

Pineapple juice.

Gin and Roses lime juice, the classic 1950s summer afternoon mix, or dry martini with Noilly Prat also super.

More gin 😀

TheNoonBell · 16/08/2024 19:10

Either drink it neat or add 1/2 water.

This is the correct answer

notasockpuppet · 16/08/2024 19:19

Coke!

The drink of my youth!

TooManyNiblings · 16/08/2024 19:20

I used to drink mine with orange squash as a student!!!
Nowadays I like all sorts of tonics, but I had to try several to decide which I liked.

Fresh orange juice and plenty of ice

I’d say orange too

Saucery · 16/08/2024 19:28

Pomegranate juice and ice.

OMGsamesame · 16/08/2024 19:30

Homemade fresh lemonade

NormalAuntFanny · 16/08/2024 19:30

Best martini:

Gin in freezer
Martini glass in freezer

When really cold..

Tiny splash of vermouth in the glass, swirl it round and throw it out.

Add as much frozen gin as you'd like.

Add a curl of lemon with some zest if you like.

Drink, but don't have more than two unless you are in your 20s.

Timeforaglassofwine · 16/08/2024 19:31

Depends on the gin. Processo and soda?

IchabodKrane · 16/08/2024 19:33

Cranberry juice or Fentimans Rose Lemonade .

Sheelanogig · 16/08/2024 19:34

Oh blimey....so many ideas. Obviously won't be trying them all tonight, or I won't have a clue which I prefer.

Thank you - I'm off to see which accompaniments I have in, to make a start on gin without tonic.

That sounds amazing, adding vermouth to next weeks shopping list

Lovelydovey · 16/08/2024 19:40

I like it with soda - currently drinking gin with. Grapefruit soda, but also like jasmine and peach, and orange and fig. I'm not a big fan of fizz but these are gently sparkling.

PurpleKate · 16/08/2024 19:42

I like gin on the rocks and nothing else.

The only problem is the vermouth goes off because you hardly use any!

Unless you have an elderly relative or someone who actually likes it 😖

HarpyBirthday · 16/08/2024 19:51

I sometimes have gin with lime cordial and ice - I shake it together in a cocktail shaker 🍸 . Its called a gimlet and is a very simple cocktail.

It can be sweetened with sugar water if that's too sharp, but I like it without.

We drink ours with sweet vermouth and Campari as a negroni.

Yup. This is my suggestion. My favourite cocktail ever. Can't drink too many at once though.

DH likes gin with a splash of water, how he drinks his whisky. I could drink really lovely gin on the rocks or straight up as a short nip.

elrider · 16/08/2024 19:59

Some people prefer it just with some cold water.
