Do you know if you can return an Amazon item without original packaging?

I bought something and threw out the packaging but the bloody thing doesn't work. I want to return it but I can't get much of a clear answer from amazons help pages or its bot as to if you can return without the original packaging!

I had the same last week -I did manage to get to a person ( the bot was going round in circles!) I had got rid of all packaging then decided it wasn’t what I wanted.
amazon man really helpful - he said just return it as it is - in any box . He said it did not matter about packaging. - they just wanted the item.
Sometimes if you do get through to a person and the item is defrective - they refund you and say don’t send the item back!
i find if you do get through to a real person on Amazon - they are helpful.

I often return things to Amazon and it should be fine, I've never had a refund refused for any reason when I've returned something.

I recently returned something to Amazon which had arrived in such flimsy packaging it was damaged, so I returned it in the same polythene sleeve.

Any box should do, just print off the label and QR code from Amazon and attach to the box.

If you return it at the post office, they don't actually want any packaging at all as it gets put in a big bag. The PO have to see that what you are returning matching the info on the bar code they scan on your returns label (which you also don't have to print).
