On holiday and the weather is shit

I'm so disappointed. I know it doesn't matter and I'm very lucky blah blah but it's really grey, windy and only slightly warm (south of France). I was really looking forward to some sun. It's due to stay like this for the next three days before perking up but we leave on Monday.

I just wanted to vent. I'm going to get up and go for a walk in the rain because there's nothing else to do.

That's really surprising, I thought the heat would be guaranteed. Where abouts are you? Can you drive to anywhere nicer?

It’s very frustrating. Might it change? We’ve just had 2 hot and sunny weeks inland but in southern France. Weather broke on Tuesday night. Surely it will perk up soon?

I’m in Ibiza and it’s the same here. We had thunderstorms for most of the day yesterday and I’ve woken up to lightning this morning although it’s not raining yet. It’s very disappointing when the weather is better at home but I’m kind of used to that always happening to me when I go on holiday now

There’s a very unusual weather front in over Spanish islands too. Very bad thunder and lightening and rain here yesterday and currently listening to the rain hammering down now. It had been boiling hot for weeks here before this. It’s just bad luck if it’s your holiday though and I feel sorry for people escaping the British weather to come to this !

I’m in Spain and the weather is like Manchester today, grey and mizzle! Though I’m mainly thinking yay, I don’t have to fill up the pool or water the garden.

Yes, as others said it’s an unusual stormy weather system moving over Spain and (I guess) France. Here in NE Spain we had a wonderful respite from the heat last night. I know it’s a bit different when you’re leaning on a week or two of guaranteed sun though.

Not sure how south you are but some areas look to be warm but cloudy today with more intermittent rain.

Fingers crossed it perks up a bit for you and a day or two can be saved.

Ah OP I’ve been away during a UK heatwave (just fyi it’s not a heatwave here right now it’s mild and pleasant but you aren’t missing much!) and the weather in a guaranteed sun place in summer wasn’t great and I remember being gutted. Forecasts are always negative I find- hopefully it will blow over soon and you’ll have a couple of nice days to enjoy. If rainy can you find some caves or an inside activity to enjoy where the weather doesn’t matter? By the time you emerge there might be some blue skies!

Oh that’s so gutting. Happened to us last year. Out of a 7 day holiday we only got 1 day where it was actually hot and sunny. The rest ranged from cool and drizzly to full on thunderstorms. Not ideal when the idea was a pool and beach break!
Hope it brightens up soon for you.

In Majorca, it’s thundering and raining here. So disappointing after a pretty rubbish summer at home.

Yep I am in France too and am gutted I’ve not packed enough warm clothes it’s been really cloudy and not v warm most of the time. Depressing !! Forecast looks not terrible today though so fingers crossed (full sun but still only 22 degrees).

My DD is in Spain and the pics she sent me yesterday are grey and cloudy skys..but warm and no rain she says

Totally understand your disappointment 😞 rain is bad enough but you'd at least hope it would be warm still and rain temporary.

We were in Amsterdam recently which I appreciate isn't the South of France but we overheard a conversation on a cafe between people who'd spent time in Barcelona and a local and they were saying the last couple of summers have been relatively crap all round.

Hope it picks up for you.

Torrential rain in Menorca. We had two mid 30s days and then it broke yesterday lunchtime. Cleared up in the evening and then woke to rain this morning. At least we are self catering and have food in the apartment. Don't envy those having to make their way to the restaurant!

but on average everything will get substantially wetter

I'm in the south if France, but maybe further west than you, OP. It's been roasting all week. Yesterday was a bit cloudy, but in the mid/high 30s. Today has been 33 degrees and sunny, but a thunderstorm has just rattled through nearby - still very warm, and the sun is just coming back out. No rain (yet!). Such bad luck to catch crap weather. Hopefully it will clear up soon.

I get the disappointment, i went to Tenerife May half term where it's been beautiful in previous years, this time it was grey and cooler than average, wasn't much fun sitting by the pool but my daughter insisted on going swimming.

It seems to be an odd summer weather wise, in several places.

We had a slightly cloudy day yesterday [South West of France] but it's been pretty hot and dry for the last fortnight. I think it depends on where you are.

This has been the worst summer here in decades according to the locals though, I've had to stop people booking flights to come over as it was just too iffy on if the weather was going to be good enough.
